As the release of Infinity Nikki's "Shooting Star Season" 1.1 update on December 30 approaches, the update's new five-star banner outfit is drawing backlash from some players, who are calling it "uninspired". Initially released on December 5, 2024, Infinity Nikki's combination of open-world and dress-up gameplay has quickly proven to be a popular hit, appealing to some players that might be outside the target audiences of other open-world gacha games like Genshin Impact or Wuthering Waves.

As the game approaches its first major update, however, some players have complaints about the featured five-star "Wings of Wishes" outfit, which will be the focus of 1.1's first banner. A few responses and quotes on the @InfinityNikkiEN post on X regarding the outfit have called it uninspired, comparing it directly to one of the game's five-star banner outfits at launch, "Blooming Dreams". Notably, both outfits are five-star ability outfits for the Floating ability and have somewhat similar silhouettes and aesthetics, although they differ in of color scheme and theming.

While the backlash is relatively minor, it is notable that Infinity Nikki's first post-launch five-star banner is receiving a noticeable negative response from players, with some even comparing the outfit unfavorably to the four-star offering on the same banner. Of course, not every outfit can appeal to every type of player, but in this case, the negativity is likely amplified by the outfit's similarities to the "Blooming Dreams" outfit, especially considering the relatively small selection of five-star outfits currently in the game.

Infinity Nikki’s ability outfits make the game a lot of fun, and if the original trailer is right, there may be even more that haven’t come out yet.

The backlash has also prompted some fans, like in this Reddit thread, to come to the outfit's defense, calling the backlash an "overreaction" and pointing out that a fashion game will inevitably have some outfits that don't appeal to certain players. In particular, some defenders have taken issue with criticisms that the outfit is "lazy" or "uninspired", pointing out that it makes sense in the context of the update, which is themed around shooting stars and wishes.

As with any gacha game, there is, of course, also the silver lining that any banner that a player might not enjoy means more savings for the next banner - though Infinity Nikki does notably lack the sort of leaks or teases of future content that players might be used to from other gacha games like Genshin. This means that it can be harder for players to plan how they want to spend their currency, which in turn can make the release of unwanted banners a more frustrating problem than it would be otherwise.

In all likelihood, the negative response to the "Wings of Wishes" outfit has been amplified by both its proximity to the "Bloom Dreams" outfit and high expectations for the game's first major update. As Infinity Nikki continues to receive updates and banners with new outfits, the game can hopefully match the kind of variety that players are expecting, and avoid this kind of negative backlash in the future.
