Characters from the iconic graphic novel franchise Watchmen may have been teased for the hotly anticipated (but still unannoucned) Injustice 3, if there’s any credence to BossLogic's latest fan art. A crossover between the Watchmen and DC universes could’ve been an exciting one, especially within NetherRealm’s fighting franchise.
The latest game in the series, Injustice 3 could be revealed at DC FanDome, which might be hinting at a supposed Injustice-related reveal planned for the DC FanDome convention on August 22nd. Coincidentally, a piece of art for a possible Injustice 3 game has recently appeared on the Internet.
A fan poster for Injustice 3 has been shared by popular artist Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla announcement key art. This time, BossLogic envisioned an Injustice sequel’s title as "Injustic3," replacing the dot above “i” with Dr. Manhattan’s atom-shaped symbol. Also snuck into the image is the iconic blood-spattered Watchmen pin, located on the poster's lower left side. Interestingly, the rights for this particular IP belongs to DC Comics, and there has already been an official crossover with DC Universe in the Doomsday Clock series. Now, BossLogic’s fan art implies there’s a possibility to see another crossover between two established universes, only this time it might happen in NetherRealm’s fighting game.
There’s a bit of additional weight to the assumption that a possible crossover is on its way since BossLogic tweeted the image directly to Ed Boon, the creative director at NetherRealm and the co-creator of Mortal Kombat and Injustice. The background of the artist’s image suspiciously reminds of Doomsday Clock comic book’s cover art, which is another nifty detail to the whole situation. Obviously, a fan art - even with an indirect involvement of Ed Boon - doesn’t necessarily indicate that Watchmen-themed Injustic3 is a real thing, although it is enough for fans to light the spark of hope.
A crossover between DC Universe and Watchmen could’ve been an extraordinary one given it is teased to happen within an Injustice fighting game. And while it is a bit silly to imagine Robin as a combatant equal to Dr. Manhattan, video game magic can easily work its wonders to by such gameplay limitations. That being said, there’re no official statements regarding Injustice 3 for now, and the community will have to wait until the DC FanDome event to see if there’s any reason to believe that BossLogic’s art is real.
