Understanding Inside Out 2’s New Characters

There is already a clash between the four new emotions and the original emotions.

As Riley experiences puberty and the hormonal woes of early adolescence, her emotions become wrapped in conflict and suppression

Inside Out 2 has undergone a significant casting shakeup since the first movie. The emotions of Fear and Disgust have been replaced by Tony Hale and Liza Lapira after Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling previously voiced them. These replacements came down to reported contract disputes between Hader, Kaling, and the studio, as the actors complained about the pay disparity between them and Poehler.

Pixar released new descriptions for the additional Inside Out 2 emotions. Envy is described as “may be small but she sure knows what she wants.” Ennui “couldn’t care less” and is “bored and lethargic with a well-practiced eye-roll,” adding “teenage apathy to Riley’s personality.” Embarrassment, on the other hand, “likes to lay low” even though that task “isn’t easy for this burly guy with a bright blush-pink complexion.”
