Insomniac Games apparently pitched an idea for Resistance 4 but were turned down by PlayStation, reveals soon-to-be ex-president Ted Price. The last Resistance title was released in 2011 and online servers for the first-person shooter were shut down just three years later. A PS Vita title subtitled Burning Skies was developed and released by a different studio in 2012, but other than that the series seems to be done and over with.

In a video interview with Kinda Funny Games spotted by Insider-Gaming, Price shared insight into his decision to retire from the game industry after over 30 years, reminiscing about the legacy of Insomniac. The discussion turned to missed opportunities, with Kinda Funny Games asking Price if there were any games he had loved but never got made. In response, Price discussed their doomed pitch to PlayStation for Resistance 4 that was never meant to be.

Insomniac's Pitch Was "A Wonderful Concept," According To Price

The Resistance 4 pitch was turned down by Sony due to timing and "market opportunity," says Price, but the team had spent some time brainstorming and had come up with a concept was, according to Price, "wonderful." Price shares that the Insomniac team was ionate about the Resistance franchise and wanted to extend the story.

The in-game world had set up an alternative history "where anything can happen," said Price, and he was excited about the direction they could take the series next. The soon-to-be ex-president notes that he was excited to continue the story, since he had been the creative director for the first entries and because "personally, I love this franchise," he says. Price notes that he's aware fans often ask if there will be another Resistance title and while he doesn't have a current answer to this question, he wants fans to know that "we pitched Resistance 4 and it was cool."

Our Take: The Resistance Franchise Deserves Another Entry

It's Disappointing To Know Fans Missed Out On A Fourth Title

Resistance: Fall of Man was released in 2006 as a launch title for the PlayStation 3. The game and its two main sequels received praise from critics and fans alike for its unique setting for a first-person shooter, which saw post-WWII British and American forces forces to take on a threat from outside our planet. All three games were fun, told a unique story, and most importantly for my husband and myself, had local co-op.

Now that we know Insomniac had an idea for a fourth game that Price loved, I'm even more disappointed that we'll never get to see it. Maybe one day, the Resistance franchise can be revisited and revived. For now, though, Sony and Insomniac games are focusing on other projects and a future Resistance title is not in the cards.
