Anne Rice's classic book series has come back to life on the small screen in AMC's Interview with the Vampire, and the show will return for a third season. Based on the eponymous novel from 1976, Interview with the Vampire concerns an ancient blood-sucker named Louis who decides to tell his afterlife story to an eager journalist. The twists and turns of Louis' life make for a gripping tale, and Rice's trademark mix of horror and romance has kept viewers enthralled across two seasons so far.

AMC's show isn't the first time that Interview with the Vampire has been adapted, and it found great success in 1994 with a feature film of the same name starring Tom Cruise. The first two seasons of Interview with the Vampire have adapted its namesake, but the series has quickly exhausted the 1976 book. With Interview coming back for a third season on AMC, it will begin delving into Rice's many sequels that continue the macabre tale. AMC wasted little time in renewing Interview with the Vampire for season 3, proving the interview is far from over.

A Production Update For Season 3

Though updates have been rather scant in recent months, the latest news comes as a production update for Interview with the Vampire season 3. The romantic horror series is one of the most-anticipated returns on TV, and producer Mark Johnson finally offered some clues about when it could start shooting. "We are going to be shooting in Toronto," said Johnson "later in the year," though he didn't narrow that timeline down to a specific month. Even if production was to begin soon, the release of season 3 is still a ways off.

Read Johnson's full comments here:

The writers are busy working away, meaning Rollin has no time to himself right now. We are going to be shooting in Toronto, of all places, later in the year, not too far away. So much of this season all rests on this man’s [Sam Reid’s] shoulders.

Especially when considering Mayfair Witches season 2 and the Talamasca spinoff, AMC's Anne Rice universe is only getting started.

With the show continuing to be an overwhelming success for AMC, it came as no surprise that the cable network picked up Interview with the Vampire season 3 before season 2 even concluded. This is an astounding vote of confidence for the Anne Rice series, proving too that the network has big plans for its continued future. Especially when considering Mayfair Witches season 2 and the Talamasca spinoff, AMC's Anne Rice universe is only getting started.

Interview with the Vampire season 2 premiered on May 12, 2024.

Following the initial announcement of season 3, little news surfaced throughout 2024. However, in March 2025, it was revealed that the writer's room was assembled and that work was progressing on the third season. Shooting is set to begin later in 2025 (at an as-yet-unspecified date) but it has also been confirmed that Interview with the Vampire season 3 won't arrive until 2026.

Interview With The Vampire Season 3 Cast

Lestat Will Lead Season 3

The cast of Interview with the Vampire season 3 will be affected by the story choices going forward, and it has already been revealed that it will adapt the sequel to the Interview with the Vampire book. The Vampire Lestat was published in 1985 and follows the titular character almost exclusively as his side of the story is told. Because of this major perspective shift, Sam Reid will reprise his role as Lestat de Lioncourt. This also opens the door for a slew of new characters in the form of Lestat's band, but those roles haven't been cast yet.

On the other hand, the show will probably diverge from the Ann Rice novel in some ways and allow for familiar characters like Jacob Anderson's Louis de Pointe du Lac to play a larger role for continuity's sake. Other likely returns include Delainey Hayles as the forever-youthful vampire Claudia, and she assumed the role in season 2 after Bailey Bass departed. If the show wants to preserve the interview format, Eric Bogosian could return as journalist Daniel Molloy as well.

Season 3 Will Adapt The Vampire Lestat

Jacob Anderson as Louis and Delainey Hayles as Claudia looking up while standing in the streets of Paris in Interview with the Vampire season 2

The follow-up to Interview is called The Vampire Lestat and sees Lestat awaken after a centuries-long sleep in the modern day where he learns about Louis' expose book

Since season 2 of Interview with the Vampire concluded its namesake novel, the next season will need to move on, presumably to the sequel books. The follow-up to Interview is called The Vampire Lestat and sees Lestat awaken after a centuries-long sleep in the modern day where he learns about Louis' expose book. Determined to set the story straight, Lestat begins to tell his own tale while also becoming a famous member of a rock band. AMC has confirmed that season 3 will adapt the novel, but specific details regarding plot changes aren't known yet.

As quintessentially 1980s as the premise sounds, Interview with the Vampire season 3 could use The Vampire Lestat's basic framework with some minor changes along the way. Lestat could return to the modern day, and could seek out Molloy in order to tell his story in contrast to Louis' version. This would allow the familiar characters to return while also preserving the general structure that Interview with the Vampire has used across its first two seasons.

While presenting the series at the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con, AMC revealed an interesting teaser trailer for season 3 of Interview With the Vampire. The lengthy clip starts with Lestat (fully in his rock star persona) being interviewed by Daniel Molloy, before the vampire takes over the interview and communicates with the audience telepathically. It then cuts to the lyrics of Lestat's rock song, and then shows clips of the vampire in various interviews wearing a number of lavish rock outfits. Finally, the teaser concludes with Lestat staring directly at the viewer with his piercing eyes.
