Summary
- Interview with the Vampire season 3 will explore Armand and Daniel's relationship, adding depth and staying true to the source material.
- Season 3 will adapt the "Devil's Minion" storyline, highlighting queer elements and the evolving dynamics between Armand and Daniel.
- Despite timeline alterations, the show continues to honor Anne Rice's stories, setting the stage for a complex and intriguing journey for Armand and Daniel.
Interview with the Vampire season 3 looks set to continue this pattern.
In Interview with the Vampire season 2, Daniel and Armand got more screen time together than I had ever dared to hope for as a pre-teen reading The Vampire Chronicles. Even later on in the book series, it was clear to me that even after a manic self-injury and the establishment of more vampire companions, Daniel was still on Armand's mind. This was confirmed to me by the last book. As such, it's fitting for the show to explore the relationship between these two, and while it may change their storyline, it looks like it will respect its key pillars.

Interview With The Vampire Season 3 Will Alter The Devil's Minion Timeline
Season 3 Will Include Elements Of The Devil's Minion Storyline
Speaking to TheWrap, showrunner Rolin Jones confirmed that Interview with the Vampire season 3 will dive into certain elements of "the Devil's Minion" storyline, while adapting its timeline. This fan-favorite chapter of 1988's Queen of the Damned was one of the most sexually explicit and queer parts of The Vampire Chronicles, pairing Armand and Daniel. I love how the show brought out queer elements of the novel that Rice may have too, had she been writing in 2022, as opposed to the 1970s. As such, I can't wait to see where the show takes the already outrageous "Devil's Minion" plotline.
Interview with the Vampire season 3 might be released sometime in 2025.
Book readers, of course, know that Armand actually turned Daniel into a vampire at the end of the "Devil's Minion" chapter, at the end of their relationship arc. In the show, this happened at the end of season 2, seemingly at the start of their arc, since we've not yet seen any evidence of romance between the two on the show. Therefore, it looks like the "Devil's Minion" timeline may be reversed. Daniel Molloy actor Eric Bogosian's words to Screen Rant leave little room for doubt:
I was playing catch up on reading the books when we started, and I just finished the seventh book after we got back from Prague. But way back in the beginning, when we first met each other, Assad kept saying, "Yeah, we're hooking up." And I hadn't gotten there yet, so I wasn't sure what he was talking about.
I'm Glad Interview With The Vampire Is Keeping Elements Of Daniel & Armand's Book Story
Interview With The Vampire Honors The Source Material
Despite reversing or altering its timeline, Interview with the Vampire will adapt the "Devil's Minion" story faithfully in certain ways. Although Armand and Daniel are not together at the time of Daniel's turning in the show, like they are in the book, they are notably still both single and lonely, after Daniel single-handedly ended Armand's 77-year relationship with Louis. I'm sure this sewed the seeds of a deepening intrigue between the two, however complicated and difficult. This makes sense considering Jones confirmed to TheWrap that season 3 will dive into how Armand turned Daniel.
While Armand remained a main character throughout The Vampire Chronicles, Daniel had a bigger role in the show than he had in the books and is only just "revving up" for future seasons, in Bogosian's words to Screen Rant. This bodes well for Armand and Daniel's blossoming romance in the show, allowing the show to further investigate the canonical thread introduced already in season 2 - Armand's turning of Daniel saved his life. Louis said it was "out of spite," but mark my words - this plot will thicken.
Why Season 3 Can't Make Too Many Changes To The Devil's Minion
Armand And Daniel's Relationship Is Too Good To Miss
The showrunners will have to change "the Devil's Minion" timeline in seasons to fit seasons 1 and 2, and to create a show with forward-action and TV-friendly pacing, but they should keep up their habit of retaining what was important about Anne Rice's stories. Judging from seasons 1 and 2, I'm not particularly concerned, but I do wonder how things will work out for Armand and Daniel. One intriguing comment from Jones makes me wonder if the show may not be altering the book's timeline or story as much as it seems.
In the show, Armand and Daniel originally met in the 1970s, which fits with the books, although they met in a different context in the text.
Jones flagged to TheWrap that love clouded Armand's judgment and telepathy, which may be why he couldn't guess that Daniel was about to blow his relationship with Louis sky-high. This implies that Armand and Daniel may have already lived out some elements of their "Devil's Minion" relationship off-screen, in the past. In the show, Armand and Daniel originally met in the 1970s, which fits with the books, although they met in a different context in the text. Perhaps AMC's possible Night Island series could elaborate further on Armand and Daniel.
It looks like Interview with the Vampire season 3 is well on its way to honoring many aspects of Armand and Daniel's canonical relationship, which will remain an important thing to do as the series goes on. Armand and Daniel's endgame must continue to match up with other stories in the show, including the meandering tale of Louis and Lestat's love, bearing in mind both have been involved with Armand. Louis and Lestat's relationship in the season 2 ending is proof enough of the show's respect for the spirit of the books - long may it continue.
