In 2014 director Steven Quale's Into The Storm tried to merge a traditional disaster movie with found footage to decidedly mixed results. Into The Storm is set in a small Oklahoma town that is beset by a bunch of tornados - including a firenado - and an assortment of storm chasers, scientists and normal citizens have to work together to survive. The movie received mixed reviews upon release but also turned a solid profit, earning over three times its budget at the box office.
Into The Storm was essentially a found-footage take on 1996's Into The Storm's Kaitlyn, a student caught up in the chaos.
Alycia Debnam-Carey had mostly worked in Australian TV before landing Into The Storm and made her acting debut in the 2003 short Martha's New Coat. Debnam-Carey doesn't get much of a chance to impress in Into The Storm in-between tornado sequences, but it's to her credit she isn't completely overshadowed by the visual effects either. 2014 also proved to be a major year for the actress, as she landed a lead in the horror movie The Devil's Hand alongside Jennifer Carpenter and the role of Lexa in the post-apocalyptic series The 100.
Lexa was the leader of the grounder clan on the latter series, and the romance between her and Clarke was widely praised by the fanbase. Sadly, Alycia Debnam-Carey soon departed the series - with Lexa's untimely death still being a source of controversy - so she could spinoff Fear The Walking Dead. Impressively, her character Alicia is one of the few from the first season to still be alive. She's been very busy since the release of Into The Storm, and even found time for a cameo appearance in the final season of The 100.
