Amazon Prime's new animated superhero series the cast of Invincible includes some of the most prolific superhero and supervillain voice actors of all time!
Based on the popular comic book (which ran for 144 issues from 2003 to 2017) Invincible tells the story of newbie superhero, Mark Grayson. The only son of Omni-Man, the strongest superhero on Earth, Mark decided to follow in his father's footsteps after he developed powers shortly after turning 17. Naturally, the hero business proved to be more difficult than Mark anticipated and he had trouble meeting his father's expectations, balancing his new duties along with school and his part-time job at a fast-food restaurant, and finding time to romance his dream girl, Amber Bennett.
While the story is firmly focused on Mark Grayson, Invincible features a sizeable cast of hundreds of characters, and the animated adaptation has introduced several new characters into the fold. Many of the actors in Invincible previously worked together on The Walking Dead, which was also based on a graphic novel by Invincible co-creator Robert Kirkman. Perhaps it is also not a coincidence that so many of these actors have prior experience in bringing comic book characters to life.
J.K. Simmons
While J.K. Simmons has appeared in many comic book-inspired productions, Invincible marks his first time playing a superhero, lending his distinctive voice to Omni-Man. Simmons is perhaps most famous for playing Daily Bugle publisher J. Jonah Jameson in multiple Spider-Man movies, games, and animated series. He also played Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon in the Justice League movie and voiced the villainous General Eiling in Justice League Unlimited.
Zazie Beetz
If Mark Grayson's love interest Amber Bennett sounds familiar, that's no surprise. She's voiced by Zazie Beetz, who first found international acclaim playing the super-lucky mercenary Domino in Deadpool 2. She also played Sophie Dumond, the neighbor who entranced Arthur Fleck, in Joker.
Grey Griffin
One of the most prolific voice actors in the business, it might almost be faster to list which major superheroines Grey Griffin hasn't voiced at least once before her role as Monster Girl in Invincible. She played Catwoman in the Batman: Arkham games and the animated movie Batman: Ninja. She voiced Wonder Woman, Giganta and Lois Lane in DC Super Hero Girls, and showed off her singing skills as Black Canary in Batman: The Brave and the Bold. On the Marvel Comics side of the street, Griffin has voiced the Carol Danvers Captain Marvel in the 2016 Avengers Assemble series, Black Cat in the 2017 Spider-Man series and Psylocke in Wolverine and the X-Men among other roles.
Kevin Michael Richardson
Famed for his resonant voice, Kevin Michael Richardson plays gentle giants as often as he does sinister villains. Invincible allows him the chance to do both, voicing both the Mauler Twins and the giant form of Monster Girl. Richardson is perhaps most famous among superhero fans for providing the voice of Trigon in various DC Comics shows, including Teen Titans and DC Super Hero Girls. He also voices Groot in multiple Marvel Comics animated series, such as Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers Assemble.
Walton Goggins
An Emmy-nominated actor of tremendous versatility, Walton Goggins lends a sinister yet authoritative aura to Global Defense Agency head Cecil Stedman in Invincible. Goggins previously appeared in Ant-Man and the Wasp as Sonny Burch; an infamous dealer in black market technology, who attempted to steal Hank Pym's portable laboratory.
Gillian Jacobs
Perhaps best known for her role as Britta Perry in Community, Gillian Jacobs turn as Atom Eve is her first time playing a serious superhero. In Justice League Action, she played a comedic foil to Patton Oswalt's Space Cabbie, lending her voice to Roxy Rocket; a former stunt-woman turned criminal, who decided to go legit by traveling into deep space and setting up her own transportation-for-hire service. She also voiced the cosmic heroine Supernova in the Rick and Morty season 3 episode "Vindicators 3: The Return of Worldender."
Jason Mantzoukas
A character actor known for playing a variety of mentally unstable and sinister characters, Jason Mantzoukas is probably most famous for playing undercover detective Adrian Pimento on Brooklyn Nine-Nine and fragrance maker Dennis Feinstein in Parks and Recreation. In addition to providing the voice of Rex Splode in Invincible, Mantzoukas was also the voice of The Scarecrow in The LEGO Batman Movie and played the role of psychic predator Jerome Wolf in the X-Men inspired series Legion.
Chris Diamantopoulos
One of the most sought-after voice over artists in the world, Chris Diamantopoulos is currently the official voice of Mickey Mouse. He plays two drastically different characters on Invincible, voicing both the supervillain Doc Seismic and Cecil Stedman's beleaguered assistant, Donald Ferguson. He previously played Green Arrow in Justice League Action and Aquaman in the Harley Quinn animated series.
Zachary Quinto
Famed for playing a variety of logic-driven characters (including Mr. Spock in the Star Trek reboot movies), Zachary Quinto was well-cast as the Teen Team's leader Robot in Invincible. Quinto first found fame playing the superpowered serial killer Sylar in Heroes. More recently, he voiced Lex Luthor in the animated film Superman: Man of Tomorrow.
Khary Payton
The voice of Black Samson in Invincible, Khary Patyon is another prolific voice actor with a long history of playing various comic book roles across multiple media. He has voiced Cyborg in multiple series, including Teen Titans, Teen Titans Go, DC Super Hero Girls, and Justice League Action. He has also voiced multiple characters on Young Justice, including Aqualad, Black Lightning, and Cyborg's father, Dr. Silas Stone.
