Invincible has hit it out of the park for Amazon Prime, and it proves that a lot of other superheroes and comic book universes from Image Comics should become animated TV shows too. Following the adventures of Mark Grayson, son of Omni-Man, Prime Video's Invincible explores how his father's legacy, as well as the responsibilities of being a hero, are not entirely what Mark expected in way the honors the original comic book.
Invincible has a 999% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, with Invincible Season 3's release date set for February 2025. Given the success of Invincible, it would be amazing to see other comic series adapted as animated shows. Specifically, seeing more Image Comics brought to the small screen would be a delight.
For many Image Comics titles, they are creator-owned characters, and these comics go well beyond just the superhero genre. This means that Amazon adapting Invincible does not necessarily mean it will ever bring other Image titles to the screen. While some of the best Image Comics could make animated series unlike any other – Sex Criminals, Monstress, The Wicked + The Divine, and Saga – there are plenty of Image titles within the superhero genre or adjacent that could make for great shows like Invincible.
6 Radiant Black
Radiant Black Scratches The Itch For Power Ranger Fans
Radiant Black would not begin properly until 2021; although, it is now connected to C.O.W.L. from 2014. Radiant Black is about a new superhero facing millennial woes, and this eventually grew into an expanded universe known as the Massive-Verse. This franchise includes titles like Radiant Red, Radiant Pink, Rogue Sun, The Dead Lucky, No/One, Inferno Girl Red, C.O.W.L. 1964, Supermassive, and Shift.

Invincible Season 3's Main Villain Explained (Based On The Comics)
Invincible season 3's new trailer has already revealed who its main antagonist is, and it is a pre-existing character you probably don't expect.
Nathan Burnett, the hero of Radiant Black, is at a low point in life, but everything changes once he discovers the cosmic Radiant, which gives him new abilities and powers. However, the original owners of these powers want them back. Radiant Black's story works for an animated series on its own, especially if it leans into the Power Rangers elements seen in the series; however, there is so much more to pull from given all the other titles in this universe, making an animated series feel even more lived in and fleshed out with all this source material.
While Image Comics once tried to establish a shared, interconnected universe, most of its titles currently take place within their own continuity.
Plus, Radiant Black has already explored a few routes for adapting the comic into other media. No/One, for instance, has an in-universe podcast released for readers to listen to with each new issue. There is also an audiobook adaptation of Radiant Black in the works, according to Image Comics, and this will be Image's first audiobook adaptation. Furthermore, there is a Radiant Black animated short directed by the writer of the comics, Kyle Higgins, so an animated series feels like the next step.
5 Kick-Ass
Kick Ass Already Had Its Shot On The Big Screen
While Kick-Ass already has a film adaptation, sequel, and a new Kick-Ass movie from Matthew Vaughn that does not mean the comic series wouldn't work as an animated TV series. The original Kick-Ass comic is about the titular character, a nerdy teen named Dave Lizewki, who becomes a real-life superhero. Along with fighting a slew of dangerous criminals, he meets other vigilantes on the way, like Hit Girl.
First published by Marvel before moving to Image, Kick-Ass takes place in the "Millaworld" and is a rich enough IP to sustain an entire universe.
Kick-Ass as a comic franchise has been around for over a decade, and that has led to several spin-off series, as well as other characters wearing the titular mask. An animated series does not have to follow the first Kick-Ass storyline or follow in the footsteps of the movie. Instead, it could adapt Kick-Ass: The New Girl, which takes place after Dave's time in the mask and follows a new vigilante with the same name. This could also act as a spiritual successor to the film while bringing new stories from the world of Kick-Ass to the screen.

Kick-Ass Reboot: Confirmation, Trilogy Plans & Everything We Know
The first two Kick-Ass movies were commercial hits, but now the superhero franchise is returning in a reboot trilogy from the original creator.
If not this, the character Hit Girl could take center stage, as she has her own line of comics in this franchise. There are even crossover comics between the new Kick-Ass and Hit Girl, so animating these two characters' stories for the small screen could eventually lead to an amazing climax.
4 Local Man
The Eisner Nominated Series Shows Another Side Of Superheroes
Starting in February 2023, Local Man -- the ultimate '90s tribute comic from Image -- was nominated for an Eisner in 2024 for best new series. This superhero series is about Jack Xaver, who is recruited for the superhero team Third Gen; however, a controversy leads to his recruitment being revoked, and he must return to his family's home and hang up his cape. Unfortunately, adjusting to civilian life is not the only problem Jack faces, as a deadly mystery unfolds.
The fact that the rights to Image Comics' characters usually belong to the creators explains why Invincible was missing a lot of cameos from the comics.
Jack's story on its own would make a compelling animated series, as it blends crime noir elements with the superhero genre. It's also focused on a hero in a unique predicament, as Jack is forced to be a civilian despite the dangers surrounding him. It would be more of a mature animated series and one that would appeal to superhero fans looking for something different from this genre.

A New Invincible Comic Is Coming in 2025 With the Original Creators: Here's What We Know So Far
The creators of Invincible are making their long-awaited return to comics with a prequel spinoff centered on one of the series' most iconic villains.
What also makes Local Man a comic ripe for an animated adaptation is the art style from the creators, Tim Seeley and Tony Fleecs. Local Man is done in the style of a flip book, so there is the lead story (drawn by Fleecs) and a flashback story (drawn by Seeley). Given the varying art styles in the book, seeing an animated series experiment with different styles throughout the series would be captivating. There is also plenty of material to adapt between the flashbacks and Jack's lead story.
3 Murder Falcon
Murder Falcon Is A Heavy Metal Hero Unlike Any Other
Murf is no ordinary superhero, but given the bombastic nature of this comic, as well as the world-saving plot line, Murf and company deserve to be considered superheroes. Murder Falcon is about Jake, a former metal musician who is at an all-time low. That all changes when Murf shows up at his doorstep and tells him he is the world's only hope for surviving a monstrous uprising. Murf is none other than the titular Murder Falcon, and he is powered by heavy metal, so Jake needs to get it together and shred it like never before.
Years before Invincible, Spawn received an animated series on HBO.
Murder Falcon is unlike any other comic out there. While its premise is wild, there is a strong emotional core to the series that will make most readers cry. It's also by writer/artist Daniel Warren Johnson and colorist Mike Spicer, and their art matches the metal vibes of this comic. They're also the creative team behind the first volume of Skybound's Transformers series, and anyone familiar with that knows that this team is unmatched, especially when it comes to their badass, epic visuals.
For that reason alone, it would be a visual delight to see Murder Falcon brought to the small screen with an animated series. Along with that, music plays such a huge part of this comic series. While readers are told what an amazing musician Jake is, an animated series could actually bring his music to life. The visuals and sound design of this hypothetical show could make it one of the most stunning animated series to date.
2 Power Fantasy's Super-Powered Heroes
Power Fantasy Has To Change The Superhero Game
Power Fantasy has yet to be collected in a trade paperback at the time of this writing, but it is one of the best comics of 2024, with a story every X-Men fan needs to read. In the world of Power Fantasy, six super-powered individuals cannot come into conflict with each other, otherwise Earth could be in grave danger.
Some of these super-powered people are seen as traditional heroes, while others might as well be walking nukes. Each of these individuals also has a distinct personality, so Power Fantasy explores different world views for each of these characters, as well as what it means to have great powers and responsibilities outside the confines of a traditional superhero comic.

One of Marvel's Most Iconic X-Men Heroes Just Went Omega And Nobody Is Talking About It
One of the X-Men’s most iconic superheroes secretly unlocked their full potential as an omega-level mutant and Marvel has yet to address it.
These different worldviews are also why X-Men fans will be drawn into this series, especially if they're looking for their next series after X-Men '97's smashing success. For those who love the moral debate between Magneto's approach to mutant rights and Charles' approach, they'll certainly be captivated by how each of Power Fantasy's super-powered individuals view their relationships with the rest of humanity. Along with that, since their powers are larger than life, seeing those animated in a series could make Power Fantasy one of the most visually distinct and jaw-dropping animated series.
1 The Domain
Public Domain Explores The Behind The Scenes Drama Of Making Superhero Comics
While this is not a comic about literal superheroes, this Eisner award-winning series does explore the behind-the-scenes drama of the comic book industry. Specifically, it explores the legal drama around telling stories attached to massive IPs.
Written and drawn Chip Zdarsky, who has experience writing for both Marvel and DC, Public Domain takes on corporate overloads, who have sabotaged Syd Dallas, the creator of one of the greatest pop culture heroes, The Domain. However, he is not the one reaping the full benefits of this character. That is until it comes to light that the rights of The Domain may not be what they initially seemed.
For fans of comic books and superheroes, this is a must-read. Bringing it to the small screen as an animated series could also add a new layer to this series, speaking directly to the struggles and issues with adapting comics to other media, like television and animation. This would be a more meta superhero comic adaptation, but it would be unlike most of the other meta takes on this genre, like Deadpool, She-Hulk, or the Wonder Man, which looks set to be Marvel's most meta show yet.

Invincible Season 3 Brings Back A Character Stronger Than Omni-Man After Their 1-Season Absence
Omni-Man has been one of Invincible's strongest superheroes so far, but a character who is arguably more powerful is set to make their return.
Furthermore, 2024 saw a spin-off series from Public Domain hit local comic book shelves in the form of The Domain. This is a five-issue miniseries, and it is the comic Syd Dallas and the company decides to make once he regains the rights to The Domain. While this is a more traditional superhero story on the surface, there is still a meta element to it since it is a comic literally pulled from the pages of another comic. These two series could even overlap in some way in a hypothetical animated series inspired by Invincible.

Invincible is a multimedia franchise that began with the graphic novel series by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley. The series follows Mark Grayson, the son of Earth's strongest hero, Omni-Man, as he enters into his powers at the cusp of adulthood. A television adaptation began in 2021 and retells the core story of the comics while fleshing it out and expanding on characters and concepts introduced in the medium.
