Nolan Grayson, AKA Omni-Man (played by J.K. Simmons), a Superman-like hero who has defended Earth for decades — or so it seems.

After acquiring powers of his own, Mark sets off on his own path as a superhero while discovering uncomfortable truths about his own father. The comic is known for blending heightened, silly superhero elements with adult drama and ultra-violence, and the Invincible show also captured that balance. Following its explosive first season, Invincible season 2 has been one of the most anticipated Amazon Prime Video releases for years — and the trailers for the second season of Invincible have only served to increase the excitement among viewers as the November release date approaches.

Latest Invincible Season 2 News

Angstrom Levy in front of green portals in Invincible season 2

The most recent Invincible season 2 news arrived on October 14, 2023, when Amazon Prime Video released the first full length trailer for the next season. The trailer for the next season of Invincible shows that the world is still reeling from Omni-Man's attack in season 1, though nobody moreso than Mark. "I always wanted to be my dad, but what if that happens? What if I become him and don't even know it?" Steven Yuen's Mark asks via voiceover while the trailer shows various shots of the destruction Omni-Man left in his wake.

The trailer also established Mark's goals in Invincible season 2, and that he wants to do more as a superhero to make the world a better place — although his comment of "put me back out there" to Cecil Stedman suggests that, at least initially, he's been benched and forced off-duty. The crucial reveal from the trailer however wasn't to do with Mark or his desire to dissociate himself with Omni-Man's legacy.

In the next season of the Amazon Prime Video show alternate dimensions will play a key part of the plot thanks to new villain Angstrom Levy. This includes what seems to be an Evil Mark addressing humanity via a large billboard with the chilling "People of Earth, the more you resist, the worse this gets."

Invincible season 2 and season 3 have both been officially announced by Amazon. After much fan campaigning for Amazon Prime's Invincible to get a second season while the first was still airing, the streaming giant showed their faith in Kirkman and his team with their double renewal.

Invincible Season 2: Story Details

Omni-Man from the Invincible Season 2 trailer

There haven't been many specific details revealed about the Invincible season 2 plot, though various teases and the trailers ahead of the November 2023 release date give some clues — as do the original Invincible comics by Robert Kirkman. If Invincible follows the arc from the comics, season 2's main plot elements will involve the Sequids' plan to take over Earth, Titan growing his crime organization, Allen's adventures in space, and Mark's tensions with Cecil's methods. The Sequids will likely be front and center, especially as season 1 ended with them attacking Mars.

There's also the subplot regarding Omni-Man's return to space, and potentially reuniting with the Viltrumites — they still have a planet to conquer, after all, and there are surely consequences for Omni-Man abandoning his mission. However, the introduction of Angstrom Levy, a villain from the comics who can travel to alternate realities and blames Invincible for what happened to him is likely the central plot, at least if the Invincible season 2 trailers are anything to go by.

Invincible Season 2: Trailer

The first full length Invincible season 2 trailer was released on October 15, 2023. The 2:10 trailer for the next season of Invincible revealed a great deal about the plot of the season, clarifying several teases Robert Kirkman and the team behind the show have made over the years. While Mark takes center stage, it's the full introduction to Sterling K. Brown's Angstrom Levy, the new villain, that was perhaps the most notable development.

The trailer for Invincible season 2 did more than just tease the multiverse of the show. Instead, this aspect of the season was fully revealed in the trailer, including Evil Mark and the version of Earth where he presumably sides with Omni-Man and the Viltrumites. Also in the trailer were plenty of first-looks at Mark's new superhero teammates, although it's already clear they're not the highly-polished and organized defenders of Earth as the Guardians of the Globe. It seems that Cecil has his work cut out for him in the next season when it comes to training a new team to replace the heroes killed by Omni-Man in the first season.

Who Is Angstrom Levy? The Invincible Season 2 Villain Explained

Angstrom Levy and Mark Grayson fighting pose in Invincible

Since Invincible season 2 is sticking closely to its comic book counterpart, the Big Bad is none other than Mark's archnemesis: Angstrom Levy. Every hero needs a recurring antagonistic threat. As the Joker is to Batman, so Angstrom Levy is to Invincible. The character pops up frequently in the comics and is finally getting his own season 2 arc. Angstrom will likely take on the same role as he does in the books, so Invincible season 2 may not see him defeated for good — just beat down for a while. Like all great villains, Invincible's Angstrom has genuinely cool powers and a spectacular backstory that shaped his heinous ways.

Angstrom basically blames Mark for his disfigurement and holds a grudge that spans the entire Multiverse (because vendettas on a single plane of existence no longer cut it in mainstream entertainment). A random freak accident caused some significant deformities for Angstrom (as pictured above), but it also gave him his own set of shiny new superpowers. He boasts the usual boons like super strength, enhanced durability, and superior intellect.

However, he also can travel between dimensions. With the focus that Marvel is currently putting on the Multiverse and Doctor Strange's interdimensional adventures, it'll be intriguing to see how Invincible tackles their own multiverse. Obviously, there are plenty of storylines left for Invincible season 2 to tackle, and season 1 set up several of them enough for the next season to start paying them off.
