Building on the success of the first two seasons, the animated superhero series Invincible delivered an even bigger season 3. Based on the eponymous comic series by Robert Kirkman, the show follows average teen Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) who lives in the shadow of his superhero father, until he begins to develop powers on his 17th birthday and discovers his father's dark legacy. Offering a subtle and nuanced look at superheroes, Kirkman's Invincible comics were the perfect fodder for an original series as comic book movies and franchises become more introspective.

The first season of Invincible was met with overwhelming praise from critics who applauded the show's crisp animation, strong writing, and excellent performances (via Invincible season 2 introducing a multiverse and timeline changes going forward, the series has kicked into another gear without losing much of the charm and witty commentary that made the first season so successful. Invincible season 3 built upon the successes of its predecessors and served up the most exciting outing so far. Fortunately, Mark's adventures are far from over.

Along with the release date, Amazon Prime Video dropped a teaser trailer for Invincible season 3 that features quite a bit of tongue-in-cheek humor. The trailer sees Mark enjoying lunch at a diner when Cecil teleports in to interupt things. They bicker about Mark's bad habits, and poke fun at the show's long hiatus. Cecil scolds Mark and informs him that he will be overseeing his training moving forward, and that they need to prepare for more Viltrumite threats.

With only a few months to go until the show's return, Prime Video revealed a full trailer for Invincible season 3 in December 2024. The trailer catches up with Mark as he continues to train with Cecil to become a more efficient hero. However, their relationship is strained by Cecil's seeming disregard for Mark's moral code. Meanwhile, Omni-Man is still feeling guilty about betraying his people and Allen the Alien attempts to bring him over to the good side. Finally, Mark gets his blue suit, and Oliver begins to forge his own path as a hero.

Invincible Season 3 Ending & Spoilers

A Dark Conclusion To The Third Season

Mark Grayson and Eve talking outside their lockers in Invincible season 1

Though superhero stories are usually upbeat and joyous, the ending of Invincible season 3 was anything but. Mark may have defeated his enemies (for now), but it has come at a great personal cost to him physically and emotionally. Continuing his arc as Invincible, Mark has crossed a threshhold and is now willing to do anything to protect his family, including breaking his own no-killing policy. All this adds up to an explosive Invincible season 4 where the ideas can be fleshed out even more.
