Invincible Season 4’s Renewal Avoids Season 2’s Long Release Window

The Confirmation Of Season 4 Proves Invincible Has A Long-Term Vision After Season 2's Release Troubles

Despite both of Invincible's seasons performing well, the show's release window proved to be a massive problem, but season 4 looks to avoid this. Although there was a lot of praise for the fantastic writing, characters, and animation, Invincible's monumental release window created plenty of backlash. Other than Invincible's Atom Eve special, the franchise didn't release any new content for around two-and-a-half years, leading to frustration among the fan base. Lengthy productions aren't uncommon for animated shows, but this huge wait set incredibly high expectations that season 2 somehow managed to reach, but this didn't end the problems.

Having finally returned after an incredibly long hiatus, Invincible season 2 went on a midseason break after releasing just four episodes, and to make matters worse, the break lasted four months. The slow production alongside this unnecessary pause received a very frosty reception and gave Invincible a big obstacle to overcome. Thankfully, season 4's confirmation solves this problem, as the release time between each installment should be much shorter. Kirkman already confirmed the wait between seasons 1 and 2 wouldn't be repeated, but season 4 getting the green light means there won't be anything holding back production.

As soon as season 3 is complete, work on season 4 can begin, allowing the series to get ahead of schedule. Considering the source material is already there to be adapted, Invincible season 4 will hopefully start its voice work early and allow the bulk of production to focus on animation, meaning the massive gap between the first two seasons can become nothing more than a distant memory.

Invincible Season 3 Is Already Happening Faster Than Season 2

Invincible Season 3's Update Confirms It Is Way Ahead Of Schedule Compared To Season 2

Alongside the vital announcement of season 4, Invincible is already developing its third installment, which should come out much quicker than season 2 did. Given how loud the backlash was, it seemed inevitable the show would learn from its error, and season 3's swift production proves this is the case. Some huge updates indicate that Invincible season 3 is clearly fixing the past mistake, as its voice acting is already complete, and the project is deep in production. Compared to season 2, this is a large improvement and means the franchise could return even quicker than expected.

While the animation may still have a long way to go, the days of two-and-a-half-year waits are over, meaning Invincible can finally put this issue to bed. According to CBR, Ross Marquand (voice of The Immortal and Rudy) hinted that season 3 could arrive as early as the beginning of 2025. If this is true, it would be around half the production length of season 2, showing just how well development is coming along, and with Invincible also providing plenty of storylines to look forward to in the future, season 3's fast production is exactly what the show needs.

What To Expect From Invincible’s Seasons 3 & 4

Invincible Has Plenty Of Exciting Comic Material To Adapt In Seasons 3 & 4

Mark Grayson as Invincible Holding Up His Fists in Front of a Purple Background in Invincible

Although no exact story details have been revealed for the seasons, Invincible has already hinted at what to expect in the future. The introduction of Anissa suggests a controversial plot with Mark could be on the horizon as she continues to try and convince him to the Viltrumite Empire. Despite Mark's resilience, the strength of the Viltrumite army will be hard to defeat on his own, but thankfully, season 2's ending teased Omni-Man and Allen the Alien ing the fight to protect Earth.

With Conquest yet to be introduced to the show, his involvement could become significant in season 4, as the antagonist will undoubtedly have a lengthy narrative that could even begin setting up Thragg.

In addition, season 4's announcement showcased Mark's blue suit, which indicates another dark arc for the protagonist. It is symbolic of his souring relationship with the GDA and his changing morals, meaning the seasons could be very eventful. With Conquest yet to be introduced to the show, his involvement could become significant in season 4, as the antagonist will undoubtedly have a lengthy narrative that could even begin setting up Thragg. Given how many key storylines are still to come, it seems like Invincible will only get bigger and bloodier in seasons 3 and 4.
