One of the biggest movies of 2019 was Casino.

But these characters are also so well-defined from one another that the famous Myers-Briggs personality types can be easily ascribed to them. From introverted to extroverted, thinking to feeling, the traits are embodied in different ways by each person throughout the film, which comes thoroughly recommended.

Frank Sheeran - ISTJ

IrishmanRobertDeNiroFrankSheeran (1)

Frank Sheeran is played by Robert De Niro and he is an ISTJ, which means Introverted, Sensing, Thinking, Judging. Throughout the movie, we see that Sheeran likes things as particular as can be. When his family, career, and mob life are in order, that is when Frank is at his happiest.

However, we also see that Sheeran, while keen on being a protector, also prefers to stick to the life he knows, showcasing pure introverted qualities. The biggest ISTJ trait, however, is that he is a thinker, not a feeler. He is borderline sociopathic and seemingly does not have the capacity to feel, at times.

Jimmy Hoffa - ESTP

Jimmy Hoffa is portrayed by Al Pacino and he is an ESTP, which means Extroverted, Sensing, Thinking, Perceiving. (Spoilers for The Irishman will be included in this blurb.) Hoffa is one of the most prominent real-life figures in this list. As such, it is well-established how attached Hoffa's reputation was to being an outspoken, extroverted person.

He always had thoughts on any subject and he would voice them in bombastic ways. When the viewer sees Sheeran getting ready to put the hit on Hoffa officially, Hoffa perceives this, too, recognizing that he is in a dangerous situation, all too late.

Russell Bufalino - INTP

IrishmanJoePesciRussellBufalino (1)

Russell Bufalino is portrayed by Joe Pesci and he is an INTP, which means Introverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Perceiving. In a bit of a surprise acting turn from Pesci, he plays a more subdued, melancholy character, rather than the typical motormouth that he is known for sticking within classic Scorsese movies.

In addition to this introversion, Bufalino can read the people around him with extreme ease and intuition. He is a strong thinker who is extremely close to the people and things that matter the most in his life, regardless of the price of that closeness and loyalty.

Bill Bufalino - ENTP

IrishmanRayRomanoBillBufalino (1)

Bill Bufalino is portrayed by Ray Romano and he is an ENTP, which means Extroverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Perceiving. This one is a bit of an obvious selection because of how closely tied ENTPs have been over the years to the profession of lawyer.

And, of course, Bill Bufalino is the major lawyer character in The Irishman, who gets in the weeds with the unions and with the syndicate his cousin Russell is entrenched in. Immensely deft at persuasion and debate, but also willing to have a conversation with anyone, Bufalino is a classic ENTP.

Peggy Sheeran - INFJ

IrishmanAnnaPaquinPeggySheeran (1)

Peggy Sheeran is played by Anna Paquin and she is an INFJ, which means Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling Judging. When determining Peggy's Myers-Briggs type, the term "judging" had to be included. The role Peggy plays is an exterior one, always observing and intuitively understanding what her father, Frank, is doing with his life. But she is his source of judgment, too.

In that sense, she almost plays something of an omniscient figure, as she knows all and judges all. While she might be a product of nurture, rather than nature, Peggy is an undeniable INFJ and the strongest connection to her type of anyone on the list.

Angelo Bruno - INTJ

bruno

Angelo Bruno is played by Harvey Keitel and he is an INTJ, which means Introverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Judging. An argument could be made for Bruno, one of the film's prominent mob bosses, as an extroverted type, but his reservations cement him mostly in introverted status.

Of course, as a mob boss, he also must be able to judge and think with the best of them and Bruno does so on a dime. A quick thinker, even in his advanced age, he is in the film in a limited capacity, but he makes a big impact with his personality type.

Tony Pro - ESFP

IrishmanStephenGrahamTonyPro (1)

Tony Pro is played by Stephen Graham and he is an ESFP, which means Extroverted, Sensing, Feeling, Perceiving. Tony Pro has streaks of Hoffa in him, which makes him a threat, when it comes to competition and the role that Hoffa played in his world of unions and organized crime. But Tony Pro was always seen to be an outgoing type, who could make a scene and become the center of attention on a dime.

Tony Pro does not have much ambition beyond this and he winds up relegated to the role of doing what other people tell him, a perfect miniature recreation of the bombastic Hoffa personality (even if the two butt heads over brunch.)

Skinny Razor - ENTJ

IrishmanBobbyCannavaleSkinnyRazor (1)

Skinny Razor is portrayed by Bobby Cannavale and he is an ENTJ, which means Extroverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Judging. Skinny Razor takes a back seat for many of the events of the film, in favor of Sheeran, Hoffa, and the Bufalinos. But in real life, Skinny Razor eventually became a captain of the mob in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. But he was definitely more outgoing in The Irishman than similar mob bosses like Bruno.

He still has the capacity for judgment and he is quite smart to realize what he is involved in, which ended up helping him skirt many of the consequences that befell his contemporaries.

Chuckie O'Brien - ISFJ

plemons

Chuckie O'Brien is played by Jesse Plemons and he is an ISFJ, which means Introverted, Sensing, Feeling, Judging. Speaking of taking a back seat, that can sum up the character of Chuckie perfectly (and almost literally, too, when the driving caravan that barrels towards Hoffa's fate sees Chuckie unwitting and unknowing).

It often seems like he comes across clueless in many situations, but he is still kind and acts out of the warmth of his own personality to help the people in his life. But still, Chuckie is nearly clueless with childlike innocence throughout the film.

Bobby Kennedy - ENTJ

huston

Bobby Kennedy is played by Jack Huston and he is an ENTJ, which means Extroverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Judging. Obviously, the late Robert F. Kennedy might be the most recognizable figure throughout The Irishman, but this is still not his story. He comes across as strongly as he did in real life, though. Confident and aggressive, but also incredibly intelligent, Bobby Kennedy was a liberal lion and one of the best movers and shakers of his time.

The claims from The Irishman seem to raise some eyebrows about the Kennedys' involvement with the world of Sheeran, Bufalino, and Hoffa. But Bobby Kennedy remains an ENTJ through and through, immortalized in history.
