Warning: includes spoilers for Invincible Iron Man #4!Iron Man is getting a stunning new suit as Tony Stark becomes one of the primary protectors of mutantkind, upending his status quo in the Marvel Universe. However, a detail about the suit implies Tony may be operating with brand new technology he's never used before.
In a tease of Invincible Iron Man #9 released by Tony to reach out to Emma Frost for help against his evil mirror image.
While Marvel is still keeping tight-lipped about Fall of X, it's clear the event will hit Krakoa hard, with even Wolverine going on the run. The evil organization Orchis has been planning a strike for a long time, and now that Feilong has got his hands on StarkTech weapons, it's hard to see what could stand in their way. Marvel states, "Tony will play a key role during FALL OF X, and his latest solo title impacts mutantkind’s new status quo in surprising ways."
Iron Man's New Suit May Run on X-Men Tech
While Iron Man has a long history of stealth suits, it's rare to see him bedecked in green energy. This may indicate that Tony is using biotech from the mutant island of Krakoa, having reached out to them at the end of Invincible Iron Man #4. Recently, Tony has totally run out of money, having been involved in a costly disaster orchestrated by Feilong. Tony has notably been using a single, beat-up suit ever since, reduced to patching up damage at every opportunity, with a large scar running across his helmet's faceplate. It's therefore surprising to see Tony in another suit - let alone a new suit with such sophisticated abilities. Meanwhile, the X-Men have developed world-changing plant-based technology, creating everything from teleportation gates to their own flying suit, which Cyclops wore as Captain Krakoa. It makes sense that if Tony is teaming-up with the X-Men, they'll lend him the tech he needs to construct a suit Feilong won't see coming - or failing that, at least the funds to construct his next model.
Tony Stark's Tech Has Been Turned Against Mutants
It's also possible Iron Man will somehow reclaim the color-changing armor fans saw recently in Iron Man #25, though it's unclear why he wouldn't have already pulled it out of storage if it was available. Either way, it seems likely Iron Man will be outgunned, hence relying on stealth to take down Feilong - destroying his own former kingdom from the inside. Iron Man is getting an amazing new suit of armor as the X-Men's most essential ally, as he faces off against his own tech to help save mutantkind.
