Zoe Saldana's Marvel Cinematic Universe character is mentioned in the first first The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special trailer teases the Christmas-themed story featuring Star-Lord, Drax, Nebula, Mantis, Kraglin, Rocket, and Groot. The footage does not include any shots of Zoe Saldana's Gamora return before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but she is mentioned as the reason Peter Quill is so sad.
This creates questions about whether Gamora is in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed Zoe Saldana's return or that she will not appear. However, James Gunn previously teased that not all the Guardians will appear in the Disney+ Special Presentation. Saldana is currently the only main Guardians of the Galaxy cast member not confirmed to appear, which could be a sign that Gamora is not in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. The trailer indicates at least that she is not part of the main story and kidnapping Kevin Bacon, so any appearance by Gamora could be minor, if it happens at all.
When Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Takes Place In The MCU
The chances that Gamora is in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special are hurt by when it takes place in the MCU timeline. It is confirmed that the Special's story occurs between MCU timeline.
The placement of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could be another piece of evidence that Gamora will not appear. It appears that part of the threequel's story will include Star-Lord and the Guardians finally finding Gamora after Avengers: Endgame. Even if Zoe Saldana's character does not appear in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, there is still a chance that the story could set up for her appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
Why The GOTG Holiday Special Should Include Gamora
It would be somewhat of a shame if Gamora is not in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. The Special is bringing back every other main cast member from the previous two movies, so it will feel weird to have Gamora missing from another Guardians adventure. That is why Gamora appearing in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special should happen. It preserves her place as one of the franchise's main characters, even if it is only in a cameo capacity that sets up her bigger role in the sequel.
