You season 4 part 2 looms in the future - but this doesn't stop enthusiasts from wondering if Netflix's thriller will continue on for an additional season or more. Part 2 will follow Joe's confrontation of the Eat the Rich killer - and potentially show Joe's final comeuppance at the same time. Joe (Penn Badgley) has evaded the consequences of his serial killings many times throughout the show, and in turn, viewers are witness to more and more of his murderous escapades - but, in facing a new and true adversary come part 2, there are worries that it's time for both Joe Goldberg and the You series to near expiration.

The You original series has found profound success on Netflix, in some part because of the intrigue that comes with featuring such a morally complex figure as a main character, but also due in no small part to the entirely fresh approach between seasons that is has taken. While viewers can't get enough, You's success could create problems should it extend the series past its optimal run size. As such, this naturally raises questions as to whether You season 4 will be or should be the last in the series.

You Season 4 Hasn't Been Announced As The Final Season

A potential season 5 seems hard to visualize at this point of the plot, in part due to Joe's changes thus far in You season 4 - suggesting that this season could end in the show. But, in spite of some very convincing signs that You might benefit in ending the series, there are also very convincing arguments in why You can continue on. As You season 4 part 2 nears release, viewers should be able to rest easy for the moment, because part 2 having not been announced as the series finale suggests that more of the complex life of Joe Goldberg may be in the works.

Among the many reasons that Netflix's You can successfully continue on is the reality that a five episode release in part 2 is simply not enough time. Viewers are still left with unanswered questions like his irritatingly incomplete narrative with Ellie or how Joe's victims in You will come to find justice or even if Joe will meet his fate and to what length. The future of the You series does seem, to some extent, open-ended, and the cast and crew of You have spoken to this on several occasions.

Penn Badgley, who signed a six-year contract to play You's Joe Goldberg, has since revealed his readiness to stick around for the remaining two seasons of his agreement if the show were to remain within the same realm of integrity it has produced so far. This s the idea of You season 5 being a prospect - especially as the show could not add the necessary value to the remaining characters needed to make them replace Joe should Badgley have decided season 4 was his last. If wasn't evidence enough, showrunner Sera Gamble discussed her intentions (via The Hollywood Reporter) in making sure the You series ends with fulfilling completeness, stating: "We have an idea for season five that we're excited about. It was never anyone's intention to run this one into the ground. When we're done, we'll be done. And we'll pack it up. Even in the early conversations with Penn, the idea was not to crank out episodes forever; it's to feel like we have told the complete story."

It appears the production of the show is not taken lightly, and thus conversations surrounding another You season appear to be serious in nature. With this in mind, it's unlikely the potential of You season 5 would be discussed if it wasn't considered a very real possibility, which in turn makes mention of an exciting potential further chapter seem like a promising sign. While season 5 has yet to be confirmed, the You series audience can look forward to an epic season 4 part 2 regardless of what the future holds.
