As the influence of anime spreads worldwide, more creators are embracing Japanese-style storytelling in their work. That’s the case with The Beginning After The End, a webcomic created by Korean-American writer Brandon Lee, known by the pen name TurtleMe. The series, which started as a web novel before being adapted into a webcomic, is set to receive a TV anime adaptation in Japan later this year.

In a recent interview at IGN Fan Fest, TurtleMe stated, "Mushoku Tensei is a title that really made me think about what reincarnation would be like," confirming that the series was a key inspiration for The Beginning After The End's own tale of life after death.

An Anime Adaptation Is Coming

The Beginning After The End originated as a web novel, debuting on Tapas in January 2017. The story follows King Grey, who, after his death, is reincarnated as Arthur Leywin in a world brimming with magic and mythical creatures. The tale's popularity led to a webcomic adaptation in July 2018, illustrated by Fuyuki23. This adaptation further expanded The Beginning After The End’s audience, solidifying its status as a beloved series among fantasy enthusiasts.

At New York Comic Con in October 2024, it was announced that The Beginning After The End would receive an anime adaptation. The series is being produced by Studio A-Cat, with Keitaro Motonaga directing and Takamitsu Kōno overseeing the script. The anime is slated to premiere on Japanese TV in April 2025, with global streaming rights acquired by Crunchyroll. Notably, TurtleMe serves as an executive producer, ensuring the adaptation remains faithful to the original.
