James Gunn breaks his silence on the recent reunion photo he shared with Zack Snyder and whether or not they were teasing the DCEU filmmaker boarding the Gunn and Snyder shared a photo together, it didn't take long for many to speculate that the latter was ing DC Studios.

However, at a recent DC press event held by DC Studios, with ScreenRant present, Gunn finally opened up about his image with Snyder and sharing it with the world. It turns out that their little meet-up was just two friends hanging out, but - according to Gunn - they knew exactly what they were doing by posting a photo of them together in of sparking speculation, as the DC Studios co-CEO said the following:

I was just talking to Zack as a friend, so we were just hanging out and then we're like, 'Let's take a picture together.' We knew full well what we were doing... We thought it was funny. He thought it was funny, I thought it was funny. And that's it.

What James Gunn's Zack Snyder Reunion Comments Mean

It's not a shock that Gunn and Snyder decided to have a little fun with the Internet, as there were countless theories being shared about what may have been going down with their meet-up. The one scenario that was always unlikely to happen was the Snyderverse somehow being brought back, as there have still been fans in the movement trying to get it to happen. However, DC Studios is putting its primary focus on establishing the DCU timeline as their main superhero franchise.

The idea of Snyder doing a DCU movie is more feasible, but at the same time, a photo of the two directors together is a long way from confirming this kind of collaboration. That said, the fact that the two DC filmmakers knew that social media would react as strongly as they did shows that they are aware of fan conversations online and the type of expectations that exist out there. It's also crucial to that Snyder is already occupied with other projects, including his work for Netflix, meaning he wouldn't be available for anything DC-related for quite some time.

While Snyder may not have anything to do with the DCU for the time being, it's still funny to hear from Gunn that they were self-aware of what type of reactions they were probably going to get by sharing it online. With that said, if there ever comes a time when Snyder would direct something for the DCU, it would be fun to see what property he would tackle, given the many directions Gunn's new franchise is taking. But until that happens, the DCU audience can put any theories to rest about Snyder and Gunn's recent image together.

The DC Universe is one of the biggest comic book franchises and often competes with Marvel. DC Comics started as National Allied Publications, founded by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1935. Since then, the franchise has exploded with thousands of comic books, movies, TV shows, and video games. 2013 marked the beginning of the most recent iteration of the superheroes, with Zack Snyder introducing Henry Cavill as Superman. After several movies with mixed reviews, DC underwent a soft reboot under the helm of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
