Writer-director Kevin Smith teases that new actors will be playing comic book movie characters Bluntman & Chronic in his comedy Clerks.

After appearing in ing roles in more Smith films, including 1999's Dogma, the pot-happy pair played by Smith and Jason Mewes received their own spotlight movie with 2001's Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. A send-up of the film industry and its approach to comic book movies, the stoner comedy saw the titular duo traveling to Hollywood to sabotage the making of a movie based on their comic Bluntman & Chronic. The new movie sees Jay and Silent Bob going back to Hollywood, this time to prevent the studio from doing an ill-advised Bluntman & Chronic reboot.

In Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Smith and Mewes themselves played Bluntman & Chronic in the film-within-a-film, memorably taking on Mark Hamill's villainous Cocknocker in a battle that ended with Smith and Hamill whipping out lightsabers. However, Kevin Smith indicates that in the reboot, different actors will take on the Bluntman & Chronic roles, though of course he does not name the actors (leaving fans to speculate about who he could mean). Smith also teased that the comic book pair will get new costumes. See his tweet below:

This teasing news about Bluntman & Chronic is just the latest in a string of updates Smith has offered about Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. Recently, the filmmaker took to Instagram Captain Marvel.

Smith of course has worked with a lot of famous actors over the course of his career, including Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, who starred together in Dogma. Speculation already is leaning toward Damon and Affleck reuniting with Smith to play Bluntman & Chronic in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, though it's worth mentioning that Smith has indicated he no longer has a relationship with Affleck, making it a long-shot that the former Batman actor would return to working with Smith. Of course, Affleck playing Bluntman after leaving Batman behind would be a tremendously funny joke, so perhaps Affleck would be game.
