The director behind the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor recently spoke up about Respawn’s plans for the next Star Wars action title, including how Jedi outcast Cal Kestis and his helpful droid companion BD-1 will continue their special friendship. After months of speculation by fans, a new trailer for the sequel to 2019’s hit Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was shown off at Star Wars Celebration 2022, showing Cal on the run from Imperial forces once again as an ominous figure watches him from the shadows.
While this weekend’s a LEGO Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order set in the droid’s likeness.
Fans will be happy to know that BD-1 seems to have a major role in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, as teased by game director Stig Asmussen in a recent interview with the official Star Wars website. While he took care not to reveal any potential story spoilers, Asmussen notes that Cal and BD-1 will retain their “special" connection in their adventure and stated that his team doesn't "just think about Cal” while planning out the story and gameplay of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Asmussen teased great things ahead for the duo in the sequel, stating:
"Well, I don’t want to spoil anything about where we’re going with Cal and BD-1 in the sequel, but you can rest assured that they’re connected. They’re a really special duo. We don’t just think about Cal, we think about Cal and BD-1, and what they’re doing at all times. It’s part of our law when we’re making the game."
Cal will probably need all the from BD-1 that he can get in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, as Asmussen also confirmed many previous leaks and rumors noting that the follow-up to Jedi: Fallen Order will be much darker than the already-grim first game. Sure enough, Friday’s Star Wars Jedi: Survivor teaser painted quite a bleak road ahead for Cal and the crew of the Stinger Mantis, with the forces of the Galactic Empire continuing to hunt them down and Cal being forced to make morally-questionable alliances in order to survive.
As dark as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is said to be, at least players will be able to find some light and levity through Cal Kestis’ special friendship with BD-1 throughout his next interactive adventure. With Star Wars Jedi: Survivor tentatively set to launch sometime in 2023, fans might not have to wait too much longer to see how Cal and BD-1 pull through in their continuing struggle to rebuild the fallen Jedi Order and save the galaxy from the forces of darkness.
