Three-time Jeopardy! champion Brendan Liaw predicted a return to the show after a brutal Daily Double error that cost him his fourth game. Brendan, a recent graduate and self-described stay-at-home son from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, came into the May 23 episode a three-day Jeopardy! champion with winnings of $59,398. However, he made a true Daily Double wager during the Double Jeopardy! round, and answered what is "The Girl with the Pearl Earring" instead of "Girl with a Pearl Earring." He never recovered from this mistake, and didn't get to play in Final Jeopardy! because of a negative score.
Brendan Liaw declared that he didn't regret his Daily Double wager, and he's looking forward to returning Jeopardy!.
In the Jeopardy! Reddit thread for the May 23 episode, Brendan declared that he didn't regret his Daily Double wager, and that he's looking forward to returning Jeopardy! for one of the tournaments. He began his post by referencing how, in his interview with host Ken Jennings, he spoke about wanting to be a comedy writer for Conan O'Brien.
Brendan stated, "so you know how in theatre they call Macbeth the "Scottish play"? i'm starting to think Conan should be called the "Irish host" on tv... invoked his name on St. Patrick's Day and immediately got the curse of the Irish/whatever the opposite of the "gift of gab" is."
Brendan then explained that he was feeling tired during his last Jeopardy! game, and so he continuously forgot the category names, including "'S' is for Small" and "'Green' Day." He wrote, "the fatigue hit me this game and i think you can tell. lots of near misses ('Push' vs. 'Precious', 'Memphis' vs. 'Montgomery') and kept forgetting category names ('mote' vs. 'speck' and 'Arrow' vs. 'Green Arrow.'" Brendan also praised his fellow contestants, writing, "Jim [Carpenter] and David [Crockett] were lightning on the buzzer, especially on those music and law clues - both super knowledgeable too."
Brendan then proclaimed that he didn't regret his Daily Double wager because it was part of his plan to play hard. He wrote, "no regrets at all about the DD wager. i promised myself i'd play to win and not to play to not lose. that's what i did - i went out guns blazing."
Brendan then looked to the future because he knows that he'll return for either the Tournament of Champions (ToC) or Champions Wildcard (CWC) tournament. He said, "obviously i hope i make the ToC outright but the season so far has had quite a few 4-day+ champs and there's still time left. i'll at least be back for something though, whether CWC or ToC! it was a dream come true to even win one let alone three games, and the three wins were not too shabby performance-wise."
Brendan concluded his post by thanking his fellow Jeopardy! contestants and his fans. He said, "thanks to all my competitors this week - i feel we were a pretty strong group overall and everyone was lovely and interesting and smart. thanks to everyone who cheered me on and i'm eternally grateful i got to grace your screens for the past four days."

Our Take On Brendan Liaw Returning To Jeopardy! For A Tournament
Brendan Deserves Another Chance
Brendan played Jeopardy! with a lot of guts, as evidenced by his Daily Double wagers. After getting the first Daily Double question wrong during Double Jeopardy!, he still made the second a true Daily Double. He wanted to try to regain the lead in the game, so he took a big chance. It was heartbreaking to see that he did know the answer to the clue, "Colin Firth played Vermeer in this 2003 film," but he made a tiny error that cost him the game by saying "The Girl with the Pearl Earring" instead of "Girl with a Pearl Earring."
