A Jeopardy!'s Final Jeopardy! round in the lead with $16,000. She bet $11,601, a strategy that took into the scores of Mitch Loflin at $13,800 and Brandon Monson at $8,300. Assuming Mitch were to bet everything and win, with her wager, she'd come out on top by $1. All three contestants guessed incorrectly and Erin ended up losing to Mitch.

Erin Hoard reflected on her time on Jeopardy! by revealing if she regretted how much she wagered during Final Jeopardy!

In a Jeopardy! Reddit thread created by Jaysjep2, Erin left a comment to react to the outcome. She recalled her betting strategy and said that if she'd ed that Mitch had stated he didn't like to gamble, she would have bet differently. She first claimed that she made the right wager during Final Jeopardy! However, "when I got back to the hotel that night and then ed that earlier that day in the green room, Mitch had mentioned a distaste for gambling, I really wished I'd rethought it a bit first!"

From a strategic point of view, there wasn't anything wrong with Erin's wager. As she mentioned to a fan who agreed with that sentiment, "Getting it right and losing would have been a total punch in the gut, so if I had to lose, this was the way to do it." Erin also itted that when it came to the amount she wagered earlier for the Daily Double, she didn't want to "risk getting too out of reach if I missed it," so by betting $3,000, she figured she'd still be in a good enough position for the rest of the game.

What Erin Hoard’s Loss Means For Jeopardy!

Erin Bet It All & Lost

Jeopardy! contestant Erin Hoard with her losing bet on the screen

Jeopardy! is not only a game of intellect, it's also a game of chance. By betting against what a contestant believes a fellow contestant will do, it heightens the stakes of the game but also allows for more failure. Not only would Erin have had to guess the correct answer, she would have to count on her fellow players guessing the wrong answer, or guessing right but not wagering enough to win. It did not pay off for Erin, in this case.

Erin's strategy was sound, however, since she bet based on both her and her fellow players guessing correctly and betting big. She counted on her fellow players to be confident in their answers, which is how one should approach a game like Jeopardy!, which is currently hosted by Ken Jennings. In the end, Erin lost by both incorrectly guessing the answer to Final Jeopardy! and betting too much against her fellow contestants.

Our Take On Erin Hoard Losing Game Over Final Wager

Erin Took A Big Risk

By taking a big risk with her final bet, and assuming her fellow competitors would also take big risks and make big bets, Erin embraced the spirit of Jeopardy! Even though she lost--and she said she would have rethought her strategy had she ed that Mitch said he doesn't like to gamble--Erin played the game the way it's meant to be played. Betting on herself, and taking into the others betting on themselves, should have paid off, but Mitch didn't believe in his answer enough to bet it all, which buried Erin in the final round.
