Speaking to EW ahead of SDCC, Michael Spierig was confident that the latest outing for the morality-driven serial-killer would be a definite return to form and please those fans who had been awaiting another Saw sequel:

"We've got some pretty wild traps in the film. We don't shy away from the gore ... It's such a perfect Halloween scare-fest. It's perhaps not quite as vicious and more fun, which is something we tried to inject into it. But it's still full of good fun gore, that's for sure. And, on top of that, it's got a really great mystery, and there are very interesting twists. It's Saw for 2017."

The co-director also provided another teaser image from the film, which shows five characters with bucket-like contraptions on their heads and a chain leading off to possibly another wicked trap.

The Spierig Brothers have a solid history with the horror medium, having directed the zombie film Undead and the vampire movie Daybreakers. They also directed the time-travel thriller Predestination and are in the post-production stage with the historical horror Winchester. So the franchise is in good hands, even if some hardcore fans may be a bit worried by the references to it being "less vicious" and "more fun". One element that people sometimes forget about the films were the wonderfully convoluted plots and frequent twists, which were as much a part of the experience as the actual blood-letting. So it's encouraging that the brothers seem as keen to emphasise this as much as everything else.

The cast is also notably strong, with Laura Vandervoort playing a main character, along with Matt more, Callum Keith Rennie, Cle Bennett, Hannah Emily Anderson, Mandela Van Peebles, Paul Braunstein, Brittany Allen, and Josiah Black. Hopefully further details and traps will be revealed during SDCC and we'll keep you up to date with any further news on Jigsaw.
