You don’t have to be a gamer to appreciate the awesomeness that is Netflix’s Arcane season 2 was reportedly the last, it nevertheless went out with a bang.

Throughout its run, I was blown away by the animated series, along with the explosive season 2 ending. And, like many fans, Jinx quickly became my favorite character. The tech genius who terrorized Piltover and Zaun went through a lot of tragedy throughout the show, and like her sister, Vi, I felt my heart break into a million pieces when Jinx met her end. Yet, with fan speculation that Jinx might still be alive, I can’t help but think about how much better a third season of Arcane would be if Jinx were more like her video game counterpart.

What Happened To Jinx At The End Of Arcane Season 2

Jinx Sacrificed Herself To Save Vi

The battle against the Noxians is in full swing in the final episode of Arcane season 2, “The Dirt Under Your Nails.” Just when it seems that all is lost for the citizens of Piltover, Jinx appears piloting a hot air balloon, bringing in the cavalry of Ekko and the Zaunites to fight back against Ambessa’s soldiers. Unfortunately, now under Viktor’s control, Vander attacks Jinx, causing the balloon to crash into the Hexgate tower as Vi rushes to her rescue.

Arcane Season 2 Ending Explained

Arcane may have ended with season 2, but that finale will keep fans talking.

Jinx and Vi awaken relatively uninjured, only for Viktor to succeed in unlocking the Hex Tech vault and begin turning everyone into machines, including Vander, who attacks them. Ekko uses his newfound time-loop technology to delay the transition, while Jayce confronts Viktor and puts a stop to his plans. Meanwhile, Jinx and Vi are safe for the moment, but things are precarious as the inside of the Hexgate tower is falling apart.

Vi tries to rescue an unconscious Vander, despite Jinx’s warning that he cannot be saved in his current beast-like state. To prove her point, Vander awakens and attacks Vi, motivating Jinx to jump into action to save her sister. After pushing Vander away from Vi, Jinx and Vander hang from the edge over a long and deadly fall to the bottom. Although Vi tries to pull them up, Jinx instead chooses to let go, holding onto her father figure as they plummet together, with Jinx at peace as she sets off a grenade to kill them both.

Despite this heart-wrenching sacrifice, many fans still believe that there is a possibility that Jinx survived. We never saw her body, after all, and if anyone is resourceful enough to get out of an impossible situation, it’s Jinx.

Jinx Deserves To Finally Find Happiness

Her Character Has Already Suffered Too Much Tragedy

Jinx sitting on a chair looking emotional in Arcane

While season 2 of Arcane ends in a pretty satisfying conclusion, I definitely have some thoughts about what should happen if a third season were to come out — especially if it turns out that Jinx is alive. If there’s one thing that I hope they change about Jinx in a potential Arcane season 3, it’s that the writers would just leave the poor girl alone. Between losing her parents, her sister, both her father figures, and her sanity, Jinx would likely already have to spend the rest of her life in therapy if she survived that fall.

Let’s take stock for a moment of everything that Jinx has gone through in Arcane. As a child, her parents were killed in the war between Zaun and Piltover. A few years later, she and Vi a found family led by Vander, who all end up dying because of Jinx’s miscalculated effort to save them. She’s taken in by Silco, a sinister crime lord who, despite his plans for domination in the undercity, does care for Jinx like a father. Silco dies, inadvertently shot by Jinx, even as he declares his love for her with his dying breath.

That was just season 1. In season 2, Jinx is hunted by her own sister, along with the Piltover authorities and the Zaun crime syndicate. She then discovers that Vander is still alive, although in the form of a mutated beast called Warwick. Even after she becomes a hero in the eyes of the undercity’s citizens, Jinx still has to contend with everyone hating her, including her childhood friend, Ekko. She takes in a little girl named Isha who practically worships her, only for Isha to be killed in an explosion.

With all of the tragedy she had to suffer throughout the series, I would have much rather seen Jinx find some sort of happiness at the end of Arcane. At the very least, her being made into an anti-hero would be fun to see.

Jinx Should Be More Like LoL Jinx In Season 3 Of Arcane

Jinx Would Be A Fun Villain

If there were a third season of Arcane, and if Jinx were to return, I’d love to see her be more like her League of Legends character. In LoL, Jinx is similar to DC Comics’ Harley Quinn — if Harley were a DIY weapons expert. The LoL website describes Jinx as " the loose cannon,” who plays dangerous pranks in both Zaun and Piltover, leaving chaos and destruction in her wake. We get to see a bit of Jinx’s LoL side in Arcane when she sets off paint bombs all over Piltover in the season 2 episode, “Finally Got the Name Right.”

I’d really like to see Jinx finally owning her chaotic side and having fun as a villain in Arcane season 3.

In seasons 1 and 2 of Arcane, Jinx is burdened by her traumatic past and the guilt she carries, causing her to constantly question her actions. In contrast, Jinx from the MOBA revels in anarchy without thought of the consequences and simply enjoys the ride. While it was fascinating to see the emotional depth of her character and the moral dilemmas she went through, I’d really like to see Jinx finally owning her chaotic side and having fun as a villain in Arcane season 3.

What Ella Purnell Has Said About Voicing Jinx

Purnell Said That Jinx Has A Lot Of "Sweet Qualities"

Of all Arcane, I was most impressed by English actor Ella Purnell as Jinx. Purnell was brought into the Hollywood spotlight thanks to her performances in hit series like Yellowjackets and Fallout, yet her role as the voice of Jinx in Arcane was perhaps her most memorable. Especially for her first voice-acting job, Purnell brought irable emotional intelligence to the role. Her understanding and love for the complex character were likely why Purnell did such a fantastic job doing the part.

“I just love how, yes, even though she kills people, and is not necessarily like the hero of the show, she’s got so many sweet qualities about her,” Purnell said in a Geektown interview at MCM Comic Con London in 2024. “She’s childish, and she’s playful, and she’s silly and funny, and god, she’s unpredictable. And that’s really fun.”

Ella Purnell will play Lucy MacLean again in Fallout season 2, but in the meantime, these three TV shows are perfect for fans of the rising star.

In the same interview, Purnell also talked about the bittersweet ending of Arcane 2, and how sad she was to say farewell to the character.

“Yeah, it is sad that it’s ending. I am going to miss playing Jinx a lot. What I also will say is [that] this has been their plan to end after two seasons for a long time [...] And I would much rather them end when they feel it’s ready and time to end, rather than making another season that is just going to disappoint fans.”

Although the plan was to end Arcane after season 2, it’s hard to accept that the show’s creatives would leave the fans hanging after giving us such a mind-blowing experience. Maybe I’m in denial, but I’ll keep holding onto hope that a third season will somehow find its way back to Netflix — and hopefully with Jinx in tow.
