For the Night of Too Many Stars, J. J. Abrams jokingly auctioned off the plot of Episode IX on what becomes of many beloved characters, at least for most fans.
As Jon Stewart hosted the Night of Too Many Stars, a benefit to assist people with autism, one part of the show was devoted to J. J. Abrams, the director of Episode IX. While others will have to wait until December 2019 to see the trilogy capper, one lucky fan already has all the details about Episode IX.

As shown in the HBO's video from the event [above], Abrams announced that to raise money for donations, he would be auctioning off the plot of Episode IX for one fan to have whispered in their ear. The bidding quickly rose into the thousands before ending at a grand total of $10,000. The lucky winner walked to the stage, stopping to sign a nondisclosure agreement for a group of stormtroopers, and then went to have the plot revealed to him by Abrams.
Just as the fan was about to receive their prize, Rob Corddry arrived and announced he wanted to add more value for the winner, so he would also provide some spoilers - for the nonexistent Hot Tub Time Machine 3. So with Abrams at one of the fan’s ears, and Corddry at the other ear, the fan was about to receive two spoilers for the price of one. However, the ante was then raised again by the arrival of Gilbert Gottfried, who said he would also throw in spoilers for Sharknado 5 - despite the fact that it had already come out in August. But Gottfried figured nobody saw the movie, so it still counted as spoilers.
What followed was the fan getting Star Wars spoilers in one ear, Hot Tub Time Machine spoilers in the other, while Gottfried described Sharknado 5 on a microphone. So if you're wondering why no Episode IX spoilers start cropping up online in the next few days, we’d have to imagine it’s because the entire plot was drowned out by hearing about three movies simultaneously. Hopefully the experience still felt like $10,000 well spent.
For the rest of us, we’ll just have to wait for the details from the set and the trailers to find out what to expect in the climax of the modern Star Wars trilogy.
