Beloved director and gamer John Carpenter is just as excited to dive into Horizon Forbidden West as everyone else. Despite being 71 years old and incredibly busy in his career, John Carpenter is an avid gamer, demonstrating that the medium is for everyone. The director, whose credits include horror classics like Halloween and The Thing, has sung the praises of numerous games of all genres over the years, but Horizon Forbidden West is something he's chomping at the bit to play.

Earlier this year, John Carpenter praised Halo Infinite as the best in the series, citing the game's production design and fun gameplay in his reasoning. Many fans of the Halo franchise echoed this opinion. Carpenter has talked regularly over the years about his continued love of games and even worked on one himself. Shortly after the release of his last film in 2010, Carpenter was credited as a story consultant on F.E.A.R 3.

The hype for Horizon Forbidden West has been brewing for years. Guerrilla Games introduced the Horizon franchise to gamers in 2017, breaking away from its shooter roots with the Killzone series. Horizon was a much bigger, more tender game that was lauded for its narrative and characters, something PlayStation largely thrives at. During the PlayStation 5 reveal in 2020, Sony confirmed a sequel was on the way and left many wondering what the game would entail. Now, after some delays, Horizon Forbidden West is here and appears to be a true showcase for the PS5.

While there have been some solid exclusives for PS5 already, the latest installment in the Horizon series is the one many have been waiting for. Horizon Forbidden West is getting great reviews already and has even somehow managed to push the nearly 10-year-old PlayStation 4 to its limits without compromising much. With the stellar reviews and cinematic legends like John Carpenter expressing excitement about the sequel, it's safe to say Guerrilla Games has something special on its hands.
