Chad Stahelski, the director of John Wick and the newly released Lazarus, revealed how he wishes to work on more anime series and how he is saddened by the fact that he isn't approached more to work on the medium. While it is unfortunate that such a talent isn't involved in more anime projects, there is still hope as he has a chance to show just how good he is in this medium.
In an interview with Polygon, Stahelski expressed his iration for the legendary Shinichiro Watanabe and mentioned his desire to improve his drawing skills to work on anime. He is open to the idea of working full-time as an action designer for anime, but feels disheartened that more people aren't reaching out to him for collaboration and hopes that this opportunity will arise in the future.
I'm jealous. If I could draw a third as good, an eighth as good as Watanabe-san, the s--t that would come out of my f---ing head...if I could get it down, I would never leave this room. I would draw all day long.
You could do so much. That's the thing with anime...you want me to run on a monorail, on drones? Of course! Anime is incredible...
If I could get away with it, having a career in anime as an action design guy wouldn't be a bad gig. I wish more people would ask us to do it. I'm surprised we haven't, I'm kind of bummed. I wish more people would call about it.
Fortunately, he has recently shown his prowess in two hit anime series, and hopefully, it shows that even in a different medium, his action is as strong as ever.
Stahelski Already Proved How Awesome He Is In Anime
Throughout the interview, Stahelski expressed just how amazing animation, animators, and anime are, and how there is no bar on how wild and imaginative the sequences can be. While he did reveal that he wouldn't be able to take up drawing, he expressed how hard and yet freeing anime is, and how this is one of the main factors he wants to work on more. It is no secret that Stahelski is a big anime fan, and it influences his work, and fortunately, he has recently got to work on some projects.
