The New Joker: Folie À Deux Trailer Confirms Harvey Dent

At Least Two Batman Villains Phoenix's Joker

While his face was not shown, the Joker: Folie à Deux trailer featured a couple of lines of dialogue from Harvey Dent. That was confirmed by the subtitles of the trailer. This is the official confirmation that Dent will appear in the Joker sequel that fans have been waiting for after a long time. The reason for that is Harvey Dent's Joker Folie à Deux role had been teased by set photos in 2023. The photos in question featured signs that said "Free Joker" and "Dent Is A Clown."

At the moment, there has been no confirmation regarding who will be playing Harvey Dent in the movie. Speculation on social media has suggested Harry Lawtey could be playing Dent. While there is no official word on who Lawtey is playing, the 27-year-old actor did bear a resemblance to the character in Joker: Folie à Deux set photos. Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face, last appeared in a live-action movie in The Dark Knight. Aaron Eckhart played the character, with his electric performance helping the Batman movie become as iconic as it was, which leaves a high standard for the new Dent.

Harvey Dent Appears To Be The Prosecutor In Arthur Fleck's Case

The Character Is The Perfect Fit For The DC Sequel

Joker: Folie à Deux will show how Arthur Fleck's actions in 2019's Joker have impacted the world. The trailer revealed that Arthur will be the focus of "The Trial of the Century," which is the perfect setup to bring in Harvey Dent. Before becoming the Batman villain known as Two-Face, Dent was one of Gotham's biggest heroes, working as the city's District Attorney and helping clean Gotham City of its criminals. Harvey Dent should play a similar role in Joker: Folie à Deux, with the character being the prosecutor of Arthur Fleck's case.

Besides his DC past, the trailer teases that prosecutor role for Dent without ever showing his face. At the start of the Joker: Folie à Deux trailer, Harvey Dent says, "They believe Arthur Fleck to be some kind of martyr. Well, he's not. He's a monster." The character's words ring hard and true, sounding like they could be from Dent's opening arguments at the Joker's trial. Dent refers to how Arthur's actions in Joker have inspired others to rebel, including Lady Gaga's Harley Quinn, setting up the stage for a chaotic sequel.

Will Harvey Dent Become Two-Face In The Joker Universe?

The Transformation Could Come With A Twist

With Harvey Dent confirmed to appear in Joker: Folie à Deux, the question now turns to whether the character will become the villainous Two-Face in the movie or not. Joker brought forth multiple changes to DC lore, which included the exploration of the villain's origin, something DC has mostly left open. The sequel will once again make some original choices with the classic characters, and as such, Harvey Dent could become Two-Face with a major twist.

Joker: Folie à Deux could have Dent's transformation into Two-Face be caused by Joaquin Phoenix's Arthur Fleck. In the comics, a criminal threw acid on Dent's face, and the tragic scarring led to his descent into madness and the birth of Two-Face. That would be something Phoenix's Joker would have no problem doing based on his actions in the trailer and 2019's Joker. There is also the possibility that a third Joker movie will come, which could lead to Harvey Dent only being teased to become Two-Face at the end of Joker: Folie à Deux before appearing in Joker 3.
