Summary

  • Snow spinoff concept trailer features Jon Snow and Game of Thrones imagery.
  • The actual spinoff series was recently shelved.
  • Jon Snow actor Kit Harington mentioned the series was cancelled due to the team not finding the right story to tell.

A fan-made concept trailer for the Game of Thrones Jon Snow spinoff series has been created. The Jon Snow spinoff series was originally announced in 2022, a few years after the conclusion of Game of Thrones. The series would have tentatively been titled Snow. Game of Thrones already has a successful spinoff series in House of the Dragon, and is currently in development for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, which is slated to release sometime next year.

Now, a Snow concept trailer has been made using Wicked AI. Check it out below:

The trailer begins with Jon Snow himself sitting in a snowy land. Game of Thrones imagery flicks across the screen throughout the trailer, including a vision of The Iron Throne, dragons, and a reference to "The Song of Ice and Fire." The trailer then transitions to The Red Woman, who "spoke of prophecies," including Snow himself's powerful destiny and his fate to murder Daenerys. In addition to Snow, the Snow concept trailer regularly features Game of Thrones character Daenerys Targaryen.

The Status Of Snow Explained

Snow Was Shelved This Year

Though this concept trailer is an interesting imagining of Snow, its ideas will never get off the ground. After the series had reportedly been in the works for two years, it was announced in July that the Jon Snow show would be shelved indefinitely. Jon Snow actor Kit Harington mentioned at the time that the series was "off the table" because the Game of Thrones spinoff's team "couldn't find the right story to tell." Harington did say that "there may be a time in the future where [they] return to it," but that Snow was not happening for now.

It is best that the Game of Thrones universe does not spread itself too thin.

Since the initial cancellation of Snow, Harington has continued on to say other comments that indicate that the actor may not be interested in continuing in the Game of Thrones universe. Earlier, the actor said that he has "spent too long" in the Game of Thrones universe, citing fatigue as a reason that he has not caught up with House of the Dragon season 2. Even more recently, Harington itted that he "kinda backed out" of Snow when the development of the project was not going as planned.

With the recent commentary from Harington, any hope of the Snow project returning seems less likely. The cancellation may be for the best, as its star warned that they "could end up with something that's not good" if they continued their development for Snow. With House of the Dragon's reviews staying positive in season 2 and more sequels in development, it is best that the Game of Thrones universe does not spread itself too thin and potentially force projects that the cast does not sound enthusiastic about. Should Jon Snow ever return to screens, it should be for good reason.

Is The Snow Concept Trailer Realistic?

The Video Features A Number Of Potential Storylines

The end of Game of Thrones saw Jon exiled beyond the Wall after murdering Daenerys in an attempt to cut her mad reign short. Presumably, the sequel series would've followed him in a new adventure far north alongside the Wildlings, and some of the arcs it could have included are mentioned in the imagined trailer. For example, Jon likely would've been tormented by his decision to kill Daenerys, who was both his lover and, as he later discovered, his blood relative. This could have opened the door for a cameo from Emilia Clarke as well.

Perhaps more intriguingly, Snow might have provided the opportunity for Jon to wrestle with his Targaryen blood. In Game of Thrones, Jon learned he was the legitimate son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, and thus was not a bastard as he had always thought. More than that, he was a prince. However, the speed of Game of Thrones season 8 did not allow Jon the time to truly process it, and the plot didn't do much to factor it in. A sequel show would actually grant Jon the time and space to reckon with where he came from.

Beyond character work, the Snow concept trailer raises the idea of Jon venturing to the darkest depths of the North, and the Wall melting even further. It is true that a sequel show would allow for greater exploration of the space beyond the Wall, and could feature additional villains and locations. Unfortunately, this could also be a reason it got shelved, as it would probably be very expensive. It would be interesting to see these ideas brought to life, but the Game of Thrones spinoff currently seems destined to remain fodder for speculation and fan creations.
