Jonathan Majors has been cast in a new action film despite his comeback movie, Magazine Dreams, failing to impress at the box office. The 2023 film premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival and received rounds of praise from critics at the time. The movie received a release date last year and finally arrived in theaters on March 21. However, despite being critically acclaimed, the indie film fell short at the box office.
According to Deadline, Majors is set to headline Gerard McMurray's new action movie titled True Threat, in which he plays Special Forces operative "Vernon Threat," who seeks revenge and justice after his teenage son is murdered by the Harlem gang, The Apollo Kids. From the film label CAT5 and with a script McMurray co-wrote with Hodge K. Johnson, the action film will see Threat on a mission to infiltrate the gang's headquarters, The Carter, a 20-story project building, to reach the top level, where he'll confront the leader and former mentor, "Shadow."

Majors Is Returning To The Big Screen
Majors is also set to star in the Martin Villeneuve-directed revenge thriller Merciless. Based on Frank Hannah's original screenplay, the movie follows a top CIA interrogator who takes unconventional and potentially dangerous measures to save the woman he loves. The casting announcement came in 2024, after Majors was convicted of third-degree assault and harassment and was sentenced to participate in an intervention program.

Jonathan Majors Addresses Whether He Could Return As Kang The Conqueror After Being Fired By Marvel
Jonathan Majors was fired by Marvel Studios in 2023, and the Kang the Conqueror actor now comments on whether he could return to the MCU.
Previously, Majors was dropped from his role as the mega villain He Who Remains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe amidst a legal battle. The incident also led to Magazine Dreams being shelved. However, with the 2023 movie's release and the two roles, Majors is on track to rebuild his career. The Creed III actor excels at playing physically demanding roles in action-packed movies and nuanced characters in indie productions. True Threat touches on themes such as fatherhood, brotherhood, and community responsibility, in addition to being the first major film to showcase the discipline of 52 Blocks, a Black American martial arts style.
Our Take On True Threat
True Threat Sounds Like A Nice Challenge For The Creed III Actor
Legal complications aside, Majors has the ability to bring nearly any character to life with nuance and complexity. His performance as He Who Remains is praised as one of the highlights in Phase 4 MCU, but blockbusters are not where he shines the brightest. His breakout role in A24's The Last Black Man In San Francisco had a long-lasting impact on viewers.
His role in the movie, which combines action, thriller elements, and deeply personal themes, sounds like something Majors could really sink his teeth into. Not only will Threat be able to showcase a fighting style that's very rare to see in cinema, but it will also offer audiences the opportunity to see Majors diving deep into the role of a grieving father.
