One of the hottest manga currently published in Weekly Shonen Jump, and Hunter X Hunter.
Jujutsu Kaisen is set in a world where humans' negative feelings (such as fear, sorrow, and regret) create supernatural, malevolent beings called "cursed spirits." Special humans who can manipulate that same cursed energy and see the spirits are called jujutsu sorcerers, and most of them work to exorcise cursed spirits and keep mankind safe. The protagonist of the manga, Yuji Itadori, is a regular high-schooler until he ingests a cursed object to save his friends, letting his body be possessed by Sukuna, the mightiest cursed spirit in history. To keep him under control, Itadori s Jujutsu High, a school for trainee sorcerers, and gets dragged into a world of supernatural fights.
Jujutsu Kaisen began publication in 2018 in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump and became one of the most successful manga of the past few years, jumping to number 38 in the best-selling manga of all time chart with more than 65 million copies of volumes sold, an impressive result in the span of four short years. To celebrate the fourth anniversary and the release of its 19th volume, the series received a number of merchandise giveaways in Japan, as well as full cover art in the latest issue of Weekly Shonen Jump. A video trailer, shared by the deadly Culling Game.
The Culling Game was set up by the series' main antagonist, renegade sorcerer Kenjaku, to create a "Battle Royale" setting for people possessing even the slightest amount of cursed energy, ostensibly in an attempt to expedite humanity's evolution by "culling" the weakest of the herd. The arc did not live up to expectations in the beginning, with some battles compared to almost filler, but has since grown in intensity and stakes. The trailer shows glimpses of many of the Culling Game's participants, some of who have shown the most bizarre powers.
Jujutsu Kaisen is currently doing very well in Japan, being one of the only two manga published in Weekly Shonen Jump to sell more than one million volumes, the other being One Piece. Akutami Gege has said in the past that they still have not planned how or when the series will end. Jujutsu Kaisen fans can enjoy this trailer, but it will only increase the agony of waiting for the official release of volume 19 in English, which will be published by VIZ Media.
