After the successful release of Disney's next Pirates of the Caribbean. However, despite the initial enthusiasm for the project, things quickly went downhill.
Interest around the abandoned project is understandably high at the moment due to the publicity around the Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt-led take on the Jungle Cruise concept. The new movie, which dropped in late July after years in development hell, follows the adventures of a boat captain, a scientist and her brother as they embark on an epic quest to find the so-called tree of life. On the way, they encounter cursed treasure hunters and deadly enemies in a narrative reminiscent of classic adventure flicks such as received mixed reviews from critics.
Although one key aspect of the film consistently singled out for praise has been the onscreen chemistry between Blunt and Johnson, the prospect of an alternative film featuring the talents of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen is certainly intriguing. Given the different acting styles of the two sets of performers, it seems likely that a Hanks/Allen version would be significantly less physical than the Johnson/Blunt movie that audiences actually got to see. However, from information available back in 2011, it's possible to glean a little more information about what the first Jungle Cruise might actually have been like.

However, other names circulating the ill-fated production included the likes of director Timur Bekmambetov (best known for The Fighter). Given this diverse range of influences, the original Jungle Cruise may have ended up being an intriguing blend of competing styles.
Given the pace of change in Hollywood, it's likely that the precise details of the abandoned Jungle Cruise movie will remain under wraps. In fact, Dwayne Johnson himself joked during an interview with CinemaBlend that the only reason Hanks didn't appear in his version is that the two refuse to work together – forcing him to turn to Blunt. Although the comment was obviously tongue-in-cheek, it does demonstrate how even the slightest problems can derail a movie. In the case of Jungle Cruise, it's clear that things were always extremely complicated behind the scenes.
