Jurassic World trilogy. ing Pratt will be the primary cast from the original 1993 film, including Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill. All three are set to play significant roles in Dominion, which will look very different from Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park.
Set four years after the events of dinosaurs will roam the world in Dominion. The latest trailer for the movie shows a pterodactyl flying over New York City, a Mosasaurus in the ocean, and two T-Rex wreaking havoc in the streets of Malta. The premise lends itself to be an adventure movie where the dinosaurs cause chaos across the globe, and co-star Sam Neill has promised that the film "has action from the moment the lights go down." But that does not mean that Jurassic World Dominion will be a good Jurassic Park movie.
A considerable part of Jurassic Park's success in 1993 was its lowkey, suspenseful horror, which is everything that Jurassic World Dominion will not be. The most memorable part of Jurassic Park is not the T-Rex breaking out of its enclosure; it's the iconic imagery of the glasses of water trembling moments before the dinosaur jumps out in front of Jeff Goldblum's Dr. Ian Malcolm and Sam Neill's Dr. Alan Grant. Jurassic Park was so effective because it found the right balance between quieter, tension-building moments and big dinosaur action. By moving away from that proven formula, Jurassic World Dominion risks becoming overblown and over the top.
With a budget of $165 million, Jurassic World Dominion is going to be a huge production, but it needs to be careful that it does not become just another hectic blockbuster. Colin Trevorrow's film has the chance to further develop Owen Grady's (Chris Pratt) relationship with his raptor Blue and give its legacy characters an appropriate send-off. In this way, Jurassic World Dominion must avoid forgetting these plot points in favor of constant dinosaur fight sequences. Similarly bombastic franchises like went wrong by focusing too much on making their sequels cinematic spectacles rather than creating movies that made sense.
There is an argument for Jurassic World Dominion to be an action film. Since Jurassic Park's release, movies have changed, and successful, all-action franchises such as the MCU have proven that bigger often means better in of spectacle. Yet while this is true for some properties, recent big monster movies like Godzilla vs Kong are wholly forgettable compared to enduring classics like Jurassic Park which use action more sparsely. Jurassic Park remains the franchise's best movie and still holds up today, so the early signs that Jurassic World Dominion will be non-stop action aren't a good thing.
