Summary

  • Despite being considered the worst movie in the franchise, Jurassic World: Dominion still made an impressive $1 billion at the box office, showing the franchise's continued success.
  • Jurassic World 4, which will be written by original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp, is just one part of the ongoing expansion of the Jurassic World franchise, which also includes a TV series.
  • The Netflix series Jurassic World: Chaos Theory is a direct sequel to Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous and will continue to have a more kid-friendly tone, further expanding the franchise's reach.

While Jurassic World: Dominion appeared to conclude the modern Jurassic World trilogy, several ongoing Jurassic projects actually prove that the franchise never ended. Despite being widely considered as the worst movie of the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World franchise, Dominion still made an impressive $1 billion at the worldwide box office. With a collective franchise box office total of more than $6 billion worldwide, Jurassic World has shown no signs of slowing down even with Dominion appearing to be its supposed "final" chapter.

Some of the earliest development details for Jurassic World 4 have been revealed, with original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp writing the highly-anticipated Universal project. Koepp also wrote the screenplay for 1997's The Lost World: Jurassic Park and is a seasoned franchise veteran, having also written the scripts for the original Mission: Impossible movie and co-wrote the recent Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Jurassic fans will not have to wait until 2025 (at the earliest) for more Jurassic World content as the franchise continues to expand through various television series.

2 Jurassic World TV Shows Proved Dominion Didn't End The Franchise

Jurassic World 4 may appear to be reviving the celebrated franchise. However, with the recency of 2022's Dominion and the Netflix series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, Jurassic World 4 is truly only extending the established movie series further. Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous is one of two Jurassic World shows that bridge the temporal gap between Dominion and Jurassic World 4, with the Jurassic World: Chaos Theory being the other.

Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, which has an expected release date of sometime in 2024, is a direct sequel to Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous. The series will also become available exclusively on Netflix and will likely feature a more kids-friendly tone than the Jurassic World movies through its story and animation style. Both Camp Cretaceous and Choas Theory are developed by DreamWorks Animation and are considered to be canon material in the greater Jurassic World universe.

How The Jurassic World Franchise Can Focus On Multiple Eras At Once

Jurassic World 4 is set to usher in a new era of the beloved franchise but can do this simultaneously with the anticipated success of Chaos Theory as well. It's possible that alongside Chaos Theory and Jurassic World 4, additional spin-off series can be implemented as well throughout the 2020s. It's difficult to see too far ahead into the future of the Jurassic extended universe, but the promising additions of Chaos Theory and Jurassic World 4 prove that the franchise never really lost momentum even after the somewhat disappointing showing of Jurassic World: Dominion.
