The Jurassic World movies are subject to a lot of criticism, but these 12 things in the Jurassic World movie trilogy were actually great. The Jurassic World series has been pretty controversial since the first film was released in 2015, with a lot of criticisms being thrown at it as well as it being unfavorably compared to its predecessor, the Jurassic Park trilogy. However, the Jurassic World series isn't all bad, as these 12 elements of the trilogy actually work fantastically.
2015's Jurassic World may not have been the most well-received film, but it was a massive commercial success, with it single-handedly bringing the Jurassic Park franchise back into the limelight. Due to the success of the first Jurassic World, two sequels were made, with the three movies making up the Jurassic World trilogy. The Jurassic World trilogy attempted to build off of what Jurassic Park started, and while it was undeniably bigger, not many people think it was better. Despite this, there is actually a lot to love about the Jurassic World movies, and here are the 12 best examples.
12 Jurassic World Was More Violent
Although there was a lot of death in the original Jurassic Park movies, the films actually weren't very violent, with the films showing the aftermath of dinosaur attacks far more often than they actually showed dinosaurs ripping people apart. Jurassic World, however, cranked the violence up a notch. The death of Katie McGrath's Zara in Jurassic World is one of the most prominent examples, but plenty of blood and gore is seen throughout the trilogy. This allows the dinosaurs to feel like more of a threat, showing just how dangerous they can be.
11 Creating Original Dinosaurs Makes Sense For The Franchise
In the original Jurassic Park movies, the dinosaurs at the park are recreated by mixing dinosaur DNA with the DNA of other similar creatures. Jurassic World takes things a step further, however, with it mixing DNA to create all new breeds of dinosaurs. The Indominus Rex is the most popular example of this, but several original dinosaurs are seen throughout the trilogy. Due to the technology present in the franchise, this seems like the natural next step of dinosaur breeding, with these unique dinosaurs allowing the Jurassic World movies to stand out.
10 The World Of Dinosaur Auctions
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom puts a new spin on the world of Jurassic Park, with it centering around an illegal dinosaur auction. Much of the film takes place in a mansion where various dinosaurs are being auctioned off to the rich and powerful, with this odd idea actually working perfectly for the film. Dinosaur auctions are so unique that they haven't been seen in the franchise before, with it making the story of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom feel different from the rest of the series.
9 Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Was Shot Like A Horror Film
Another great thing about the Jurassic World trilogy is that Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom was shot like a horror film. While the idea of dinosaurs hunting people down is scary, the Jurassic Park series has never really felt like a typical horror franchise. However, that all changed when Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom brought on horror director J.A. Bayona to direct, with his unique cinematic language allowing him to frame and light the dinosaurs as if they were actual horror movie killers.
8 The Jurassic World Trilogy Finally Left The Park
Much of the original Jurassic Park trilogy centers around the titular park, with them returning to the island throughout the trilogy. After the first Jurassic World, the theme park isn't all that significant to the main story, with the series instead focusing on volcanic islands, mansions, and secret laboratories. This allows a different corner of the Jurassic Park franchise to be shown, seriously helping the series.
7 Fully Integrating Dinosaurs Into The World
By the time of Jurassic World Dominion, dinosaurs are fully integrated into the world, and this is an incredibly cool idea. Dinosaur black markets, dinosaur advocacy groups, and government response agencies designed to handle dinosaurs have all been established, with the film attempting to show what the world would actually be like if dinosaurs roamed the Earth once again.
6 The Jurassic World Trilogy Feels Like A Cohesive Story (Compared To Jurassic Park)
While the Jurassic Park series is a trilogy, it mostly feels like three disconnected stories, with the main characters of each one not even being consistent. The three Jurassic World movies, however, are all one overarching story. Each film builds off of the narrative of the last, with it seeming much more like a cohesive story than its predecessor.
5 The Dinosaur Activists Storyline
Jurassic World Dominion changes the world of Jurassic Park significantly, with one of its biggest introductions being the dinosaur activist storyline. In the film, several main characters have ed a lobbying group designed to protect dinosaurs from the government, and this is actually a really cool and unique idea. The dinosaur activists bring up all kinds of interesting moral dilemmas, with them being one of the best introductions to the franchise.
4 Jurassic World's Human Clones Are A Really Cool Idea
Dinosaurs aren't the only things being cloned in Jurassic World, as Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom actually introduces human clones. Human clones in Jurassic World are actually a really cool idea, as it makes sense for people to use this technology to bring back loved ones. The human clone storyline plays a big role in the last two films, and while it may seem weird, it conceptually makes a lot of sense.
3 Jurassic World Dominion Used A Lot Of Practical Effects
Jurassic Park's blend of practical effects and CGI is what makes it so great, as it combines both to make incredibly realistic dinosaurs. While Hollywood has moved away from practical effects and toward CGI in recent years, the Jurassic World movies actually had their fair share of practical effects. Jurassic World Dominion featured tons of practical dinosaurs, making them look so much better.
