The second trailer for Jurassic World protagonist Owen Grady (Chris Pratt). Between cameos of returning characters and a plethora of new dinosaurs, Owen Grady faced the jaws of death in many forms throughout the trailer. Although he has survived thus far in the Jurassic World series relatively unscathed, the new trailer implies Jurassic World: Dominion might be the film that finally kills Owen Grady.
The animal behaviorist, Owen Grady, was first introduced in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Claire and Owen traveled to an abandoned Jurassic World to save Blue from a volcanic eruption. They were then taken to Lockwood manor and witnessed the release of dinosaurs into the wider world. At the end of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Claire and Owen resumed their romantic relationship and began looking after Maisie Lockwood (Isabella Sermon), a clone of the daughter of John Hammond’s (Richard Attenborough) business partner.
The events within the new Jurassic World: Dominion trailer put Owen Grady in the most dangerous situations he has faced yet, and it may have deadly results for Chris Pratt's character. In the Jurassic World: Dominion trailer, it is revealed to Owen that the raptor Blue had a mystery baby who is then kidnapped. The rest of the trailer sees Owen desperately doing whatever he can to save Blue’s baby. There are three particular scenes of Owen in turmoil that seem impossible to survive. One moment Owen Grady is caught between two T-Rexes, then in the next scene he is jumped by a Raptor after trying to outrun dinosaurs on his motorcycle. Finally, a dinosaur dives beneath a frozen lake on which Owen is standing. Owen falls into the water as a speedy dinosaur approaches him with open jaws. Jurassic World: Dominion is dead set on putting Owen in the most danger he has seen yet. If the series wishes to be as grounded in reality as possible, there is only so much danger Owen can face before his luck runs out and it costs him his life.
The danger Owen faces in the trailer is not the only reason returning characters in the Jurassic Park series.
Owen’s death in Jurassic World: Dominion also makes sense as the next stage for his arc in the Jurassic World series. He has evolved away from his selfish womanizing ways by settling down with Claire and helping raise Maisie. He finally has a place within a family. If Jurassic World: Dominion showed Owen sacrificing his life for Claire, Maisie, Blue, and all his loved ones, then it would be the perfect selfless emotional send-off for his character that completely contrasts his self-serving behavior from the first Jurassic World.
Owen Grady has survived many encounters with deadly dinosaurs and murderous humans in the Jurassic World series thus far, but his luck can’t hold out forever. Eventually, the Jurassic World series will have to kill one of its protagonists to elicit an emotional reaction from the audience. Based on the events within the Jurassic World: Dominion trailer, Owen Grady’s death may be the emotional linchpin moment of the Jurassic World sequel.
