Zack Snyder reveals his Justice League 3 would've been a New Gods invasion movie. Today marks the long-awaited release of Man of Steel. His Justice League was supposed to ramp things up on a massive level, but when he departed the project in the middle of production, things changed. Joss Whedon was brought in to complete the film, and he altered much of what Snyder had planned.
Thanks to some enthusiastic fans, though, the Snyder Cut is now available to stream on HBO Max. Snyder's original vision for the first Justice League has emerged, and many are already looking ahead to what would have come after. Snyder has spoken at length about what Justice League 2's story would've entailed, stating it would delve into the Knightmare timeline on a grand scale. It's clear Snyder also planned for a Justice League 3, but few details are known about what that movie would've looked like.
Snyder imparted some new information about Justice League 3 during an interview with wonder meg. As Justice League features some New Gods like Darkseid and Desaad, Snyder was asked if he ever had ideas to bring in other characters from that lineup, such as Big Barda. Snyder was quick to reveal that yes, had things continued as he planned, many New Gods would've appeared. "All of the New Gods would be rolling" in at some point, he said. Snyder added, "In the full invasion of Earth... I think you'd really have to go full pedal to the metal with the New Gods at that point. 'Cause like the third movie is a New Gods invasion movie really, in a lot of ways."
The New Gods have yet to really get their due on the big screen, though Steppenwolf did factor into the theatrical Justice League. The Snyder Cut features at least four New Gods (in of those who have been revealed before the film's release), with Darkseid perhaps being the most anticipated. Just seeing him in cinematic form is exciting, but to know even more New Gods would've appeared further down the line is even more thrilling.
Currently, Ava DuVernay is in development on a New Gods film, but few updates have emerged since it was announced in 2018. Right now, though, that looks like fans' best chance of seeing the forces of Apokolips and New Genesis arrive in the DCEU. Many still hope Snyder will get to make the rest of his Justice League trilogy, but there are currently no plans for him to do so. It will be easier to tell if there's a chance of that once the dust on the Snyder Cut settles, so people shouldn't necessarily give up hope just yet. Justice League 3 could happen someday, thus bringing the epic New Gods Earth invasion to life.
