Following the events of Absolute Power, the heroes of the core DC Universe have fought against the deep divisions in the world around them to usher in a new era of unity. And it’s just in time, too—because Darkseid has returned! Superman gathers every DC Super Hero on Earth to hold the line against a vastly different version of the Lord of Apokolips as they raise our cosmic defenses and prepare for war. And when the first blows land, the shock waves will ripple across DC’s core series, shaking the nature of their realities to their very foundation! But a greater threat looms on the horizon in the Absolute Universe. Here, DC’s biggest icons come of age with fewer advantages while facing greater opposition than ever before and retaining the immutable heroism that continues to inspire and entertain fans. But can they really protect the light that shines inside them when the world in which they live is hurtling toward a terrible destiny? |
In their DC ALL IN announcement on YouTube, Snyder and Williamson confirmed that it will be Superman’s newly formed and more robust Justice League that will confront Darkseid, marking the team’s long-anticipated return.
The Justice League Will Return in DC ALL-IN SPECIAL #1 With Superman Leading the Charge
Cover B Wes Craig Wraparound Card Stock Variant for DC All-In Special #1
Aside from Williamson and Snyder’s confirmation that a Superman-led Justice League will return this fall to battle Darkseid, details about the comeback of DC’s most iconic superhero team remain scarce. What’s particularly intriguing about this announcement is the complete lack of mention of the Titans. This suggests that the Justice League is stepping back into its role as the DCU’s premier superhero team, rather than merely assisting the Titans in the fight against Darkseid. However, it seems the Titans—or at least Starfire—will have a role in the battle, as she is prominently featured on the main cover of the special.
Thanks to the DC ALL-IN announcement, fans also know that the Justice League's battle with Darkseid will lead to the creation of the ABSOLUTE UNIVERSE. This new universe will showcase wilder, more resourceful, and more dangerous versions of fan-favorite DC characters. Fans can think of the Absolute Universe as the equivalent of Marvel’s Ultimate Universe. While both the DC Universe and the Absolute Universe will coexist within a single metaverse, they will differ fundamentally. The DCU will remain rooted in "Superman Energy," as established in Doomsday Clock, whereas the AU will be defined by "Doomsday Energy," giving it a more chaotic edge.
The ABSOLUTE UNIVERSE Means Fans Will Likely Get TWO Justice Leagues This Fall
Cover C Rafa Sandoval Wraparound Card Stock Variant for DC All-In Special #1
The creation of the Absolute Universe is particularly exciting because it suggests there will be an ABSOLUTE Justice League, or at the very least, the eventual formation of this new league. This means fans won't only see the return of the Justice League this fall but could also get two distinct versions of the League featuring different iterations of their favorite heroes, such as Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. If two Justice Leagues do emerge, it will be interesting to see how they compare and which version ultimately wins fans' favor.
