Movies and TV shows based on Shazam! were both critically favorable and financially successful.

With a promising slate of content in theaters, the DC high is expected to continue in 2020 with three live-action DC films set for 2021 and 2022. The slate will hopefully only continue to expand and that means developing new projects for the years to come, or in some cases re-developing existing ones. The Justice League Dark team is something WB and DC have wanted to do something with for a while, but they're now taking them in a new direction.

According to a report from Bad Robot's recent deal with Warner Media. There are no specific characters or concepts known to be in development at this time, just that Bad Robot executives are planning meetings to get projects moving. It is also unclear if J.J. Abrams will be involved directly in any projects as a director.

Justice League Dark

Various versions of a Justice League Dark movie have been in development at WB and DC for almost a decade, with directors like Guillermo Del Toro and Doug Liman attached at different points. Now, it appears Bad Robot will take a shot at cracking the characters to bring them to the screen. The original of the Justice League Dark team include John Constantine, Madame Xanadu, Dean, Shade, Changing Man, and Zatanna, with Swamp Thing becoming a recurring member of the team not too long after. With this new deal, any of these characters could potentially get a standalone movie or TV show.

In the aftermath of Bad Robot's attempt to create a Cloverfield universe, it is possible they could bring the same approach to DC. These characters make up the supernatural, darker, and scarier side of the DC universe, so Bad Robot could take a monster movie approach to each project. This announcement makes it appear as though all of the Justice League Dark projects Bad Robot develops will be connected to one another, but their connections beyond that are not known. It is possible they'll exist in their own universe entirely or be part of the larger shared universe DC Films is creating. Once development on these Justice League Dark projects truly begins, hopefully more details on Bad Robot's plans will then surface.
