Warning! Spoilers ahead for Batman/Superman: World's Finest #29!One of the most powerful enemies the Justice League has ever faced is still around just waiting to come back. A story set in the past sees the heroes of the DC Universe fight an impossibly powerful threat from the Sixth Dimension. Though the day is saved, the threat it presents is still lurking.
In Batman/Superman: World's Finest #29 by Mark Waid and Dan Mora, the Sixth-Dimensional threat Doom-Mite has all but won. However, Bat-Mite and Mxyzptlk travel across the DC Universe and return with every magic hero to save the day. Every magic hero, as well as the imps, Superman, Batman, and Robin, begin pulling time energy directly from Doom-Mite's body.
Bat-Mite stops Doom-Mite from getting a second wind and the heroes successfully remove the Sixth-Dimensional being's godlike powers. With Doom-Mite no longer a threat, Doctor Fate takes the villain away, promising to find a prison powerful enough to hold him.
Doom-Mite is Defeated But is Still Alive
The powerful being known as Doom-Mite traveled to the Fifth Dimension, where he destroyed the Just-Us League's base before following Bat-Mite and Mxyzptlk to Earth. Doom-Mite wanted to find the world's greatest champion and unleashed an army of imps upon the world, pairing them with the DC Universe's greatest villains to cause chaos across the globe. Eventually, Mxyzptlk loaned Jimmy Olsen a bit of Fifth-Dimensional power to defeat the villains, causing Doom-Mite to erroneously believe Olsen was the world's greatest hero. Despite the magic upgrade, even Olsen with godlike powers wasn't enough to stop Doom-Mite.
What's interesting is that Batman/Superman: World's Finest is a series that takes place in the past, meaning that Doom-Mite was defeated some time ago. Yet he's never been a threat since his first attack on the DC Universe. This isn't unlike how things went down with the Devil Nezha in the series' first arc, who was similarly locked away at the conclusion. However, Nezha eventually escaped and imperiled the world in Batman vs. Robin. While Nezha has been dealt with, there's no telling what's become of Doom-Mite, meaning he could come back and threaten the DCU once more.
Is Doom-Mite Coming Back for the Justice League?
Sure, Doom-Mite is stripped of his powers now. But all it took Nezha to become a threat again was for someone to unleash him from his imprisonment. Wherever Doom-Mite has been for the last several years, he could easily return to threaten the DC Universe if someone grants him his freedom (accidentally or otherwise). Worse, Doom-Mite knows how strong the Earth's heroes are and he can formulate a much better attack. He nearly destroyed the world on his first go. If Doom-Mite returns to attack the Justice League again, there might not be a world left for them to protect.
Batman/Superman: World's Finest #29 is available now from DC Comics.
