New artwork from George Miller's failed 2009 Justice League: Mortal arrive giving us a glimpse of the planned Batman funeral scene. Long before the DC Films Universe existed, director George Miller already had a plan to bring DC's premier team of superheroes to the big screen. But instead of straight-up assembling the characters, the shelved film was meant to be a bit more complicated with its story being an adaptation of Mark Waid’s Tower of Babel and based on the Justice League: Unlimited animated series. Gathering a pool of talented actors such as Armie Hammer as Batman, D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, Adam Brody as The Flash, Common as Green Lantern, Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman and Hugh Keays-Byrne as the Martian Manhunter among others, there was so much anticipation for the movie.
Unfortunately, even before it started production, Justice League: Mortal was canceled because of various reasons. On top of Warner Bros. putting the project on hold due to such high budget demand, issues with the script and concerns from director Christopher Nolan, who was doing post-production for The Dark Knight at that time, ultimately killed the chances of the movie being made. Now, it's nothing but a favorite "what could've been" topic among fans.

Speaking of being a great conversation starter, some new concept art on the film recently emerge online that will definitely pique the interest of DC fans. Courtesy of Imgur OwnTheKnight, the storyboards feature what was supposed to be Batman's funeral scene while he's watching from afar with a pained look on his face. A continuation , on the other hand, features Flash and Martian Manhunter approaching the Caped Crusader's coffin. Check out the illustrations below:
The images also featured Superman hovering on the church during Batman's fake funeral, as well as the Son of Krypton actually donning the infamous black suit - something that has once again become a hot topic after Mission: Impossible - Fallout.
Similar to Miller's Justice League: Mortal, there's a slim chance that we will ever fully see Snyder's complete work on the 2017 superhero ensemble flick despite undying clamor from fans. Especially now when it looks likehe announced he was stepping down due to personal tragedy. That said, here's to hoping that there are at least a few more Snyder-directed shots that will end up in the Justice League Blu-ray release.
