In the theatrical cut of Justice League, almost all parademons look the same, but The Snyder Cut looks to be returning to the Batman v Superman depiction where they were different shapes and sizes. Snyder’s 4-hour version of Justice League will bring back many of his original concepts from BvS, and the Knightmare scenario will be one of the areas explored. This scenario is crucial to the role of the parademons because it was in that sequence where different types of parademons were shown.
Parademons are created from dead or captured enemies of Darkseid, Lord of Apokolips, and are genetically modified using the Mother Boxes. In Joss Whedon’s Justice League, they were employed as part of Steppenwolf's invasion of Earth during which they were forced to retreat thanks to the combined forces of Amazons, Atlanteans, Old Gods, Green Lantern Corps. When Steppenwolf returned and fought against the Justice League in the War for Earth, the parademons returned with him. Various forms of parademons were not explored in the Joss Whedon version, but they will be in the Snyder version.
The change in the parademons comes down to Zack Snyder’s cut of the film being vastly different from the 2017 Joss Whedon version. Whedon dropped many of the elements set up in Batman v Superman, but The Snyder Cut will have the chance to rectify a lot of these changes. The parademons fall into the category of changes that will be addressed. Their various forms have already been teased in the HBO Max Official Trailer in the shot of Apokolips with Darkseid's introduction. The trailer scene features a hall filled with parademons with different types depicted in the crowds. These distinctions will probably resemble the various forms introduced in Snyder’s BvS Knightmare scenes.
The versions introduced in BvS's Knightmare scenes were most likely there in the first place because of Darkseid’s conquests of other planets and the different species that were converted to parademons. During the infamous Knightmare sequence, some significantly larger and somewhat different-looking parademons were shown to have pincer-like arms extending from their abdomens. In HBO Max’s Justice League: Director’s Cut Official Teaser Update, the Flash potentially points to the return to different types of parademons. At the end of the trailer, he says, “This guy has probably fought hundreds of thousands of other super beings on the other planets he’s destroyed, right? And we have to assume he’s won.” The quote could be a foreshadowing of different conquered species turned into parademons.
In Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the unanswered themes and storylines from Batman v Superman have a chance to be redeemed. His creative control over the film means the parademons will likely have a closer resemblance to the different versions in his previous entry in the DCEU. The parademons will be one of many changes, and it should add more depth than the generic troopers in Whedon’s version. The superheroes of the Justice League seem to have their hands full with various parademons, Steppenwolf, and the lord of them all, Darkseid. However, Batman has the perfect response in the teaser trailer, “I don’t care how many demons he’s fought in how many hells. He’s never fought us. Not us united.”
