The Wonder Woman. All of these and a few more appeared in the 2017 film Justice League.
The making of the film was complicated because it changed directors - Zack Snyder was replaced by Joss Whedon. The original cut of the film is called the Snyder Cut and it's never been released. Here are 5 reasons why the fans need it and 5 why they don't.
Don't Need: It Was Never Finished
The main reason why watching the Snyder Cut might not be as amazing as many fans imagine is the fact that it was never finished in the first place. Zack Snyder left the film project fairly soon, and his version had a lot of unfinished special effects and moments using the green screen left.
As every superhero fan will know well, using the green screen is a standard and necessary practice for big superhero blockbusters since it allows to create all the amazing fights and superheroes' powers. Without the special effects finished, Snyder's version of the Justice League probably wouldn't be easy to watch.
Do Need: Superman With No Mustache
Superman's erased mustache in the Justice League is a grateful source for many jokes and memes you can see online. When the filming of the film was finished, Henry Cavill, who plays the iconic Man of Steel, started growing a mustache for his film Mission Impossible - Fallout which was later released in 2018.
When Cavill was asked to come back for reshoots for the Justice League, he already had a mustache and couldn't shave it because it was in his contract for the Mission Impossible film. The solution? CGI lip which, unfortunately, didn't look so good and it drew the attention from Cavill's otherwise solid performance.
Don't Need: Too Expensive
Making superhero films is no cheap business. You have to pay thousands of crew , the actors, and many other people who work hard to make the film into the finished product which can be shown in movie theaters.
According to current estimates, finishing Snyder's cut of the Justice League would cost millions of dollars, and it's doubtful any studio would be willing to put the money into it. And yes, while the fans made an effort to provide money for the film, even if they all chipped in, it still might not be enough, and the film would end up unfinished anyway.
Do Need: Different Cause For Superman's Return
After they lose the Mother Boxes, the Justice League soon realizes that they're underpowered and need help if they are to have a fair chance at defeating Steppenwolf and his army. Aquaman is actually the one who points out that they don't stand a chance like this. That, and the fact that Bruce feels guilty for Superman's death, makes him form a plan for how to bring Superman back.
But originally, the film could have offered a different solution in the Batman v Superman when the dirt on his coffin moved - a fact that the Justice League completely ignores thanks to the reshoots.
Don't Need: A Lot Of Other Material
One of the simplest but also the most compelling reasons why DC fans would like to see the Snyder Cut is because they simply enjoy stories about their favorite superheroes and want another good Justice League adventure.
And yes, while the film could have added a lot to the fanbase, the good news is that there's already so much other material the fans can focus instead, to quench their thirst for anything Justice League related. You've got the comics, of course, and then there are multiple animated TV shows, and several animated films as well, that are mostly of high quality and worth watching.
Need: Longer Run
One of the reasons why the Justice League didn't score so well with most of the critics and a lot of fans as well, was the fact that it felt rushed. Wonder Woman was somewhat introduced in Batman V Superman when she first appeared at heroes properly appeared for the first time in this film.
Since Justice League was fairly short, only about two hours, it had to squeeze in too many things and didn't do justice to a lot of them (pun intended). Snyder's cut, on the other hand, would be 214 minutes long, which would be more than enough time to give the heroes the love they deserve.
Don't Need: Botched Up Continuity
If Snyder's cut came out a few years back, it could have been a great hit. But in 2020, it might be a bit too late for the release of the updated 2017 Justice League film. Since the premiere of the current version of the film, Shazam!, and the supposed darkness of the Justice League might not be so attractive to the audience anymore.
What's more, the cinematic universe already has a new Batman, who will be played by Robert Pattinson, so if Batman suddenly switched faces again, it would feel pretty confusing.
Need: A Better Villain
A less than impressive villain is a common problem in modern superhero films. To be fair to the DCEU, it's not the only cinematic universe that struggles with this, so does the MCU, albeit on a smaller scale. If it's been a while since you saw Justice League, you may not recall that much about Steppenwolf, this film's big baddie, and that's because there hasn't been much about him, to begin with.
The character didn't get much screen time or a complex motivation for his deeds and he was also defeated rather easily when Superman flew onto the scene and kicked his ass. However, if Steppenwolf was given more space in the Snyder Cut, he might have come across as a genuine threat and a better villain.
Don't Need: Too Dark
This point is debatable, depending on whether you prefer dark and serious superhero films (such as the original Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy), or if you like more the not-so-serious, slightly over-the-top, funny and relaxed superhero flicks, where there's no serious threat, or at least it doesn't feel like it, and everybody's happy and safe in the end.
Reportedly, the studio executives weren't so thrilled about Snyder's version of the Justice League since they considered it to be too dark. So, in the end, they chose a different approach and the audience got the Flash who runs around and cracks jokes, which barely made him more than comic relief. This one is truly all about preferences.
Need: Bruce And Diana
If you think that the most tragic romance of the DCEU is Diana and Steve Trevor, or Clark and Lois Lane, then you might be surprised to hear that it could actually be the one between Diana and Bruce. The main reason for this is because it was never allowed to happen in the first place. It's difficult to overlook that Gal Gadot and Ben Affleck had natural chemistry in Batman V Superman, even though they barely appeared onscreen together.
They grew even closer during the events of the Justice League and one has to wonder what they could have become if they had been given more space. It's not clear whether the Snyder Cut would solve this or not, but it'd at least give the fans more of this great duo.
