In more recent years, Kaitlyn Dever has been part of projects with heavy and important stories, as well as star-studded casts. A great example of this is Netflix's miniseries Unbelievable. The show follows a young woman, played by Dever, who reports being raped. However, she takes the claim back after the cops treat her as if she's lying, leading two female detectives (Toni Collette and Merritt Weaver) to investigate the real story.

The miniseries was based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning article called An Unbearable Story of Rape from 2015 and the related book, A False Report. With such relevant subject matter and a true story at its base, Unbelievable quickly became a significant project for Netflix. Kaitlyn Dever was essentially the face of the series' success. Dever was nominated for a Critic's Choice Award and a Golden Globe for the role. The series also received four Primetime Emmy Award nominations.
