An Oscar-nominated star has discussed being a popular choice to replace Jonathan Majors as Kang actor was fired by Marvel. Now, Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom will serve as the villain of the next two Avengers movies. Since Majors was fired, multiple actors had their names thrown into the rumor mill about who could replace him as Kang. One of the most popular picks has opened up about the situation.

On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Colman Domingo has revealed that he would rather play a character that is his own than replace Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror in the MCU.

The actor also said that he set up a meeting with Marvel Studios' heads after the rumors that he was up for Kang the Conqueror spread all over social media and the news. While his MCU debut did not materialize after that, the actor remains excited about ing the franchise in future Marvel projects, but not as Kang, as talks with Marvel continue for a new role. Colman Domingo currently voices Norman Osborn in Marvel Studios' Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Check out the full quote below:

“Listen after a while when it was constantly in the press, and on places like you know, Twitter, I was like 'wait a minute is this true, am I being talked about?' I literally called my team and said are you guys having conversations that I don’t know anything about? And they are like ‘No, I don’t know.’ And then I was like, ‘are you guys being cagey or what?’

And they weren’t, I don’t think so. But I think there had been conversations about me, coming to Marvel in some way so we did follow it up with a sitdown meeting with the heads of Marvel. So I did do that. And we talked openly about the landscape of Marvel or even like the Kang rumors.

I personally knew that, listen, I’m just all about energy and I want to do things that make sense and bring gentle energy but I feel that I want a role to be mine, whatever that role is, whatever I develop… Something didn’t feel right of me, like ‘Oh, I replace someone.’ I said no, I want to build something from the ground up that’s my own. So I feel like that was never the conversation about my point of view. You know what I mean. I still don’t know if I was discussed. So I just wanna build something from ground up and there’s still talks.”

What Colman Domingo’s Kang The Conqueror Comments Mean

The MCU Will Have To Look For Someone Else If Kang Is To Return

Despite being one of the most popular candidates among fans to replace Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror, Colman Domingo has no interest in doing so. The actor's curiosity was piqued by the rumors about him being considered for the role, but he decided to have talks with Marvel to not only understand the situation but make it clear that he intended to the franchise in a new capacity. Domingo teased in the interview that his Norman Osborn would be on a journey to become Green Goblin in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

With the multiverse open in the MCU, perhaps that could allow for that animated version of the character to make the jump to live-action or Domingo to play a similar Norman Osborn from the multiverse that stays in the MCU alongside Tom Holland's Spider-Man. What is clear is that, no matter what role he plays, Domingo wants to the MCU as a character he can build from the ground up in the franchise. With Kang left behind by the actor, Domingo continues to have talks about ing the MCU, and his animated role ensures a good relationship with Marvel.

Our Take On Colman Domingo’s Kang The Conqueror Comments

The MCU Can Use An Actor Of His Caliber

While I think Colman Domingo would have been fantastic for Kang the Conqueror and his many variants, I feel like after Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom casting, there is really no need to go back to Kang. With Domingo wanting to explore new characters with Marvel, that seems like the best possible path for the studio. The two-time Academy Award nominee has the potential to play either manipulative villains like Mister Sinister when the MCU reboots the X-Men or sympathetic heroes like Blue Marvel. Kang the Conqueror is not needed for Colman Domingo to the MCU.
