Appearing in Avengers: Secret Wars, Kang will also lead to some serious MCU problems down the road.
First introduced as He Who Remains in Avengers: Infinity War. Unlike Thanos, who was mostly built up in cameo appearances and post-credits scenes, Kang is actually making some significant appearances before appearing in an Avengers film, with the character seeming to serve as he main villain in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Although Jonathan Majors will bring a lot to the role throughout the MCU's Phases 5 and 6, the problem lies in who comes after him.
Kang Is A Perfect Thanos Follow-Up (But Who Can Follow Up Him?)
After Thanos, many weren't sure if the MCU would be able to raise the stakes for the MCU's next big threat. After all, the Mad Titan killed half the universe with a snap of his fingers, and it's hard to get more threatening than that. However, the MCU's Kang the Conqueror successfully followed up Thanos because the character has a trick up his sleeve - time and multiversal travel. There are seemingly an infinite number of Kang variants in the MCU, and the only two that have been introduced so far are unlike anything else the Avengers have faced before.
Kang's time travel acts almost like a movie-breaking power. Theoretically, Kang can travel back in time and alter the lives of any heroes who oppose him, preventing them from getting their powers and becoming heroes. Even though it was hard to follow-up Thanos, it will be even more so with Kang, as he has proven to be the MCU's most powerful entity by far. While there are a few options, like The Beyonder and Galactus, even they aren't all that much more powerful than Kang. It already seems nearly impossible to follow-up Kang, and the limits of his powers haven't even been tested yet.
Why The MCU Shouldn't Be Scared To Make Kang Next Level Powerful
Even though it may be hard to follow him up, the MCU shouldn't downplay Kang's powers in order to protect the ability to pick future villains. The next two Avengers films should feel like conclusions to the Multiverse Saga, and it would feel like a disservice to Kang and the recent movies if he doesn't use the full extent of his abilities. Even though it may be hard to find a character in the comics more powerful than the MCU's Kang, the franchise can always just upgrade a character's power from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania through to the end of Phase 6 and beyond.
