With Kang poised as the MCU’s next major antagonist, he could fight the heroes using a trick first shown in Avengers: Endgame. The finale of the 2021 Disney+ series Loki marked the debut of He Who Remains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Played by Jonathan Majors, He Who Remains was, in fact, a variant of the time-traveling supervillain Kang the Conqueror, and as the creator of the Time Variance Authority, his death would usher in the re-emergence of his evil variants vying for supremacy, thus ensuing chaos in the multiverse. With the disclosure of the plan for the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, Kang’s position as the next primary antagonist in the franchise had already been secured.
The first set of heroes to stand against Kang the Conqueror will be composed of Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang, Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne, and Kathryn Newton’s Cassie Lang in the film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The MCU’s Phase Six slate will conclude with another two-part Avengers story, with Avengers 5 based on Kurt Busiek’s 2000s comic run The Kang Dynasty. Although there might be cinematic deviations from Kang’s comic-book origins, the long-awaited villain can use them to his advantage, using an Avengers’ tactic against themselves.
Kang Can Undo An Avengers Victory With Time Travel
In the inevitable battle between Kang and the Avengers, the former can be victorious through the same strategy previously employed by the latter. After Thanos’ (Josh Brolin) snap in Avengers: Infinity War, the world was told to move on, but the Earth’s mightiest heroes still devised a plan to claim back what they lost. In Endgame, the Avengers’ winning move was teaming up to manipulate time and gather the Infinity Stones from the past. This time travel was instrumental for them in gaining the upper hand against the Mad Titan, undoing their defeat, and bringing back those who were snapped away.
Similarly, as a master of time and space and conqueror of eras and worlds, Kang can easily go back in time and revisit the MCU’s history to get what he needs if he gets defeated. As such, getting a solid permanent victor on the MCU antagonist looks to be a true challenge. Kang’s superhuman abilities, unparalleled intellect, and access to virtually every weapon made will allow him to be borderline indestructible, reversing his defeat by following his enemies’ lead and using time travel to pose an even bigger threat to the multiverse.
Kang Could Unite Defeated Villains To Fight The Avengers
Aside from a trip through time to obtain weapons and ammunition, Kang – this saga’s replacement for Thanos – can also draw inspiration from the heroes reappearing through portals in Avengers: Endgame. Kang's best potential allies would be villains previously defeated by the Avengers, such as Thor: The Dark World’s Malekith, Black Panther’s Killmonger, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ Wenwu; he can even bring back Ultron and Thanos, as well. Not only will this tactic unleash more destruction to the multiverse, but this can also be an opportunity to overwhelm the heroes and remind them of past wounds and damages, thus ensuring their defeat.
If that does not work, Kang can always turn to his own variants; after all, numerous versions of himself are just waiting for a shot at ruling the multiverse. For instance, Kang can bring in Immortus for his knowledge about time and the cosmos, or Mr. Gryphon, for his technological command. Other MCU Kang variants like Iron Lad, Rama-Tut, and Scarlet Centurion can also be included, but that would probably commence the Multiversal War that He Who Remains was wary of. Regardless, Kang can learn a thing or two from the heroes’ victory in Avengers: Endgame – although it may well be revealed that he had the idea first.
