Bacon's best horror movies.

Bacon is considered something of a cultural icon, and his performances in movies like Apollo 13, Sleepers, and Flatliners have cemented his iconic status in Hollywood. No stranger to the small screen either, Bacon starred in the Fox crime thriller The Following and won a Golden Globe Award for his role as Lieutenant Colonel Michael Strobl in the HBO TV movie Taking Chance. But, it is another of Bacon's cult movie performances that is due to see a spike in popularity.

Tremors Is Coming To Shudder

This Could Revive Interest In The Franchise

Directed by Ron Anderson, from a screenplay by Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson, Tremors spawned multiple sequels, most of which were direct-to-video, with the most recent being 2020's Tremors: Shrieker Island.

Now, Shudder has announced that the original Tremors will be ing the streaming platform in the near future. The '90s cult classic horror-comedy is set to premiere on the streamer on May 1, while its sequels remain without a streaming home. The news also comes on the heels of original creators Stampede Entertainment revealing they've reacquired the rights to the series and are in early development on a revival.

Our Take On Tremors' Future & New Streaming Home

The Franchise Could Get A New Lease Of Life

Kevin Bacon From Unaired Tremors Pilot

While the latter sequels saw a more mixed reception from critics and fans alike, the Tremors movie franchise remains a staple in the horror genre. Development on an eighth movie has never been directly confirmed by Universal Pictures or Michael Gross, the only actor to appear in all seven installments, but with Stampede Entertainment's recent tease of plans for a franchise revival, its new streaming release on Shudder could bode well for their efforts.

There have been a few false starts in reviving or reimagining the Tremors franchise, such as the scrapped Tremors TV show. But the first movie's cult following, and possible success on streaming, could help with the development of a new Tremors movie, or a TV spinoff, particularly one with Bacon back in the cast.
