One cosplayer is honoring the early career of DC's true Fastest Man Alive with an excellent Kid Flash cosplay. The original Kid Flash Wally West has now given up his old costume to assume the mantle of the Flash, but his old look is still incredibly iconic. And it represents an incredibly important part of the character's history.
A great cosplay by Alec (@alecdejaune) posted on Instagram by the photographer Erik JAWS Photo (@erikjawsphoto) serves as an homage to Wally's days as Kid Flash and the even greater speed he developed later. The cosplayer is decked out in a great rendition of Wally's classic suit showing him both at rest and on the go. In the action shots, speed lines have been edited in to represent Wally's tremendous speed. They even capture Wally's great sense of humor, joking about stretching before doing cardio. It's a great homage that does the character some much-needed justice.
Wally West Gets His Due as the Fastest Man Alive
Wally West originally served as Barry Allen's sidekick, Kid Flash. While initially sharing a similar costume to that of Barry's Flash, an energy bolt eventually transformed his outfit into the yellow suit that has endured as Kid Flash's costume to this day. After Barry Allen died in the Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline, Wally set aside his Kid Flash costume and took up his mentor's mantle as the Flash. In this role, Wally eventually honed his speed to the point where he is now the Fastest Man Alive, even if the Reverse Flash was once faster than him.
Thanks to The Flash TV show and the DCEU movies, Barry Allen has been the Flash receiving the most spotlight in recent years. This is a shame given Wally is arguably an even more iconic character, having had some of the best Flash stories devoted to him in the comics. He is also able to do things that his predecessor Barry Allen never could with his more powerful speed and unique relationship with some of his rogues' gallery. Luckily, Wally is back in the spotlight in the comics again now after a brief absence during the New 52 era, but in the broader world of film and television he is still often overshadowed. This is a shame given he is the actual Fastest Man Alive and the one who embodies the role of the Flash the best.
Kid Flash Cosplay Gives Wally West a Much-Needed Spotlight
Fortunately, while the movies and TV shows may not be giving him much of a spotlight, cosplayer Alec is. Their work is a great reminder of the character's past that also honors Wally's tremendous speed. Hopefully Alec's Kid Flash cosplay will both satisfy fans who want to see more of the character while also inspiring more creators to pay homage to DC's true Fastest Man Alive.
