A new movie about Hulk Hogan, titled Killing Gawker, is now in development. Hogan is known for his professional wrestling career, but has also become an iconic celebrity personality. In 2013, Hogan filed a lawsuit against Gawker Media after several of the group's employees posted parts of a sex tape between him and a person named Heather Clem. Three years later, in 2016, Hogan won a $140 million judgment against the group.

As per Variety, a movie called Killing Gawker is now in development based on the events. The film will be produced by Artists Equity, which is the production banner of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. The Charles Randolph-penned screenplay is based on the book Conspiracy: Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker and the Anatomy of Intrigue by Ryan Holiday. Gus Van Sant is slated to direct the project.

Affleck, Damon, and Van Sant are no strangers to collaboration. The trio previously worked together on Good Will Hunting, which Van Sant directed back in 1997. Since then, he has not worked with Damon and Affleck as a duo, with his more recent titles including Feud, When We Rise, and The Sea of Trees. Van Sant did direct Damon in another film, making Promised Land with the actor back in 2012.

Affleck and Damon won Oscars for writing Good Will Hunting, while Van Sant was nominated for directing.

Killing Gawker will also be an exciting opportunity for Affleck and Damon to continue their work with Artists Equity, a new production company that they started in 2022. Through this banner, the pair produced Air in 2023, a movie in which they also both starred. From Good Will Hunting to being extras in Field of Dreams and more, Affleck and Damon are long-time collaborators. Artists Equity is just one of the many ways in which the pair is continuing their collaboration, which they will be able to continue through Killing Gawker.

Other than the information on the director and producers, little is known about what to expect from the film. Affleck is rumored to be taking on the role of Hogan, but there has not been any casting information announced. Given both he and Damon were previously actors in Air, it seems likely that they would star again in Killing Gawker, especially because both are A-list actors whose names would be a major draw. As Killing Gawker continues on in active development, hopefully the project will be a great next endeavor for Artists Equity and for Van Sant.
